Re: [Avid-L2] Utility for wrangling 4K media?

Thanks Mike and Jörgen.

This looks like it should do the job.  It can work with an Avid source summary, not just EDLs, so maybe it will pay attention to the paths therein.  Looks like it supports switching filename suffixes which may help with proxy workflows...and maybe with copying sidecar files.

Seems pretty good for 50 Euros.

Thanks,

be spread over 5-10 hard drives. Is there some kind of utility that
people like for this sort of task?

It seems to me the 'Source File' and 'Source Path' bin entries can point
me to the drive location of any particular clip, so I'm imagining there
is something that can read that info out of an AAF or ALE export, then
copy all the needed source files to an external drive, maybe prompting
me to mount drives as needed. I think I'd be looking to copy entire
source clips, not extract just the subsections used in the sequence.

Any recommendations along those lines?

Thanks,

Re: [Avid-L2] Am I the only fool on here running MC8

Well, when I installed 8 this week and went to get the AMA plugins from the Avid site, the XDCam plugin said "coming soon"  And when I start Avid, the plugin I currently have is flagged as not supported.  So there you go.

[Avid-L2] Re: Utility for wrangling 4K media?

I recently used an app called EDL Spy for a Red project that was spread across 5 drives.

http://edlspy.felixhuesken.de

It searches the drive for any clips present in the EDL and copies them to a folder of your choice.

Worked great.

[Avid-L2] OT: It's a Dog's Life in a High Tech World

Just sitting in LAX on the complementary wifi logging into the 11 web cams at the Water Park for Dogs Rubin is staying at.  I can switch cameras and even pan, tilt and zoom on the various rooms.  So far I've watched Rubin jump into one of the care takers laps, sniff other dogs and even pee on the floor when ignored.  I realize this is way OT but this is fun tech and seem pretty impressive to me.  Adobe anywhere, Avid everywhere eat your heart out!!!  I've got Rubin anytime while I'm on vacation.  Now if only the web cams were 4K.  ;-)

Re: [Avid-L2] ProRes 4444 via AMA

I don't have an answer but I've noticed on my own systems that I have through upgrading ended up with older plug in versions that were left after uninstalling Avid and reinstalling a newer Avid version.  Just like I don't have to reinstall BCC 8 going from 6.0 to 6.5 some elements, or maybe all of them in the ama plugin folder are left alone.  I found I had older 32 bit and newer 64 bit versions of some of the ama plugins and I had to remove the outdated ones to get the newer ones to work.  The catch was I didn't use the particular formats so I didn't catch it right away.  It might be worth checking if any older ama plugins might be throwing a monkey wrench in things.  Probably not related to the Prores issue but worth a look.  It helped me on the avchd issues I was having a few weeks back.

+1 for Dirk.  He has been very helpful over the years with my Boris quandaries.  I think of him as the Marianna of Boris, but I don't know if he bakes his own dog treats.  ;-)

Re: [Avid-L2] Am I the only fool on here running MC8

I'm running 8 buy all I do is cut tvcs as a classic offline the do my online in smoke. I don't have any of the problems many others do as I simply don't push things that hard in the avid.

Having said that I've really enjoyed it so far and upgraded as soon as it was released.

You won't find many who have "upgraded" from 7 to 8, as no features were added.  It's essentially the same except for the new licensing system.  You'll probably see more folks on 8 later in the year when new features are added and the deadline for getting a service contract approaches.
