Interesting bug. When you add an audio filter - both supplied and third party - MC locks up ("application not responding") when you use the space bar to stop/start the timeline. Not every time, but frequently. If you use JKL, it seems to be fine.

I'm trying to get the director of this movie I'm doing enough information so he can doing around on scenes without utterly destroying things. He has some minimal Avid experience, but isn't exactly what you'd call a "power user". So basically I'm looking for some sort of MC7.0 (Mac) Quick Start Guide of common keystrokes and short-cuts, etc. I know, the manual But there's no way in Hades I can hand him a manual hundreds of pages long. I may as well hand him James Joyce's "Ulysses" translated in to Sanskrit.
Any referrals would be helpful. Much obliged.

We have seen vertical banding when Arri files are AMA'd and transcoded in 6.5.4 and 7.0.3 as well as audio problems. Importing to 6.5.4 seems to work fine. No action so far from Avid…

Subject: Re: [Avid-L2] can i transcode 2k to 1080?
Just to let you know, I've had problems transcoding Alexa ProRes 4444 Files with 7.0.3 and 7.0.4. (I've already reported the bug)
Transcode with those versions in a qualified Z820 were extremely slow.
Transcode times were fine after downgrading to 7.0.2.
Hope this help.
Regards.

Just a quick note: for 2K ProRes files from Alexa you do NOT need any other AMA plugins other that what comes pre-installed with Media Composer. Since they are QuickTime files, the native QuickTime AMA plugin works to read these.

You can do this in Resolve and add a LUT before baking the clips back out. I've done it. There are a few tutorials out there. So regardless of your Avid, which will do it with the Arri ama plugin (not sure the specific number) you can count on doing it in Resolve. You can then check the Resolve clips on your Avid system without having to battle in ama plugins that may or may not be missing.

It took me some time to blast my dongles with the new support contract. I learned that when you enter the code it now takes a business day for Avid to internally approve the upgrade. I assume this is with the new crossover in subscriptions etc... My code indicated that I was pending approval. I failed to note that info as I'd never had to wait when entering the code. An Avid employee contacted me off list and helped straighten things out. Then my second dongle system had no dongle updater file shown on the product page so I had to reach out to the same Avid employee. It turned out the paper work for my second dongle based system had not indicated I had a dongle so the updater file download didn't appear on my product page. I guess we now don't turn in our code for a dongle updater file. Avid knows if you have a dongle and will provide a link to the updater file right on the product page. This all assumes they have the right info on file.

I never have had any issues with spam on the email I use for the Avid-L but all of a sudden I’m getting blasted. Anyone seeing the same?

Thanks David, The third support person and I mutually decided to call it a night after about 5 hours. Our attempts were getting pretty repetitive. She asked me what time I get into work in the morning and offered to call me as soon as I get there. That woman works the same insane hours as we do. I asked if I could call her instead and maybe a little later in the hope that either our in house ASCR or our IT will be back at work. She gave me her direct line. Not sure Marianna could do better than that.
The reason I'm sharing this is that there are few Avid users who dislike the company and have as little respect for the company as I do. In spite of that, I an a HUGE FAN of great support or at least great effort and that's what I got today. As big the disservice Avid does to the people who use their products is, it doesn't really compare to the way they leave these hard working people in support hanging out there trying to do the impossible. I hope they are paid well. --J.B.
