Once in a while, Russian pirates are useful. I was able to read on a windows machine that didn't have avid but had an old version of AE- rendered out to a Mac-friendly codec.

[Avid-L2] Re: P clips in an I project.

I got the same problems a few months ago. Refreshing motion adapters doesn't help.
What i did (hope I remember well) is converting all audio from mxf to omf and did a omf export instead of aaf. Video brougt in protools as qt export.
The problem wasn't an issue with MC 5 and the newest protools version. Only MC5 to older protools versions.

I have a .AVI file that I need on Monday, but I can't find a codec for it - it's CUVC.

Anyone know where to get this codec for a mac? I'd even transcode on a PC if needed - though it won't currently play on any of our PC's either.

If it wasn't a 1.5g file, I'd as for help transcoding it...

Re: [Avid-L2] OT: Realtime DVD r's Discontinued?

We've got a bunch of the DVD Direct recorders (a slightly different model)
they've very good - quite a lot easier to use than some of the other DVD/HDD
combos I've had in the past...

I still have 3 Panasonic Models and one Sony available in the biggest local
(New Zealand) retailer... Fewer, but not gone yet...

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Digitizing question

In regards to the deck settings... You should try real hard to make sure they match...
You can often get odd errors with cueing and reporting accurate timecode otherwise.
Post the exact deck model, and someone here may know.

I posted a little while ago that I've got a Panasonic AJ3700B deck that never auto configures properly - Avid always thinks it's a Panasonic (something else)

This ALWAYS screws up digitizing. But you can tell right away... it won't even load in to the avid.
However, I've seen assistants do things like turn off the 'TC' button so that their digitizing will work... when instead they should have changed the deck... that would be what is considered a BadThing.

However, I have seen the Avid locked to reference, and the incoming video not locked to reference, and it has caused problems in the past. In that instance it would be safer to remove the reference from Avid to ensure it locks to incoming video.

I'm a big fan of a round of sync foe everyone just to be safe. If the avid has no sync I don't think the avid cares on capture if the deck is free running or locked to house ref but when doing a digital cut I've had prompts warning about a lack of sync to the record machine that might effect edit accuracy.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Avid Compatability Matrix: MC Soft/MAC

Hey Jesse,

The trouble with going outside of the 'compatibility' list - is that often things seem to work just fine - until you notice that something 'weird' is happening... like you can't export a certain video codec or edls won't write out... you just never know.

If you need to make the move, and you can't do the upgrade... you're stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Go for it - and if it doesn't work... well... then it doesn't work.

If you have a support contract with Avid, and you call with a question and your hardware/software isn't in spec with that list... they won't even listen to your problem... you'll get the 'reinstall your OS, and see if you still have the same problem'. So, if you need Avid to support you - DON'T go outside of those specs. If you are supporting yourself... try it out... see what happens! :)

Another wrinkle... make sure your mac can run the older OS... The new towers won't even boot up with a 10.5 OS. (I know that part from experience)
