[Avid-L2] Export file name resets

Each time you *change* the export profile when exporting a sequence from
MCP (8.9.2) , most of the sequence name is removed from the
export-file-name; only the first word remains in the filename that is
about to be created. This is a consistent error. So by this time you say
something nasty, cancel the operation, restart the export, and now MCP
of course defaults to the correct export profile and the COMPLETE
sequence name has reappeared. THEN you click OK and do the export.
Please fix this waste of my time!

I tried to do my first Win10 system recently but it has never been workable.  In use for imports/transcodes – not stable enough for editing.

Sigh…

Lou, If you're only crashing several times per week, consider yourself
lucky. A few months ago we switched to Windows 10 and MC 8.9.1.
Depending on what I'm doing, I get somewhere in the range of 1-15
crashes per day. Straightforward editing of material that is happily on
the ISIS; 1-2 crashes per day. Restoring material that has been
archived on to external drives; easily several crashes per hour. MC 8.x
on Windows 7 was maybe a few crashes per week. --J.B.

[Avid-L2] [FR] + Live Link?

My system:
Mac 10.12.6/Sierra; MC 2018.2

Hello L2 gang!

Is anyone regularly using the "QT Live Link" feature with success?
I've been doing some testing and I'm not getting a 'live' behavior; I still have to 'Relink to Files' to get the Master Clip to update.

FEATURE REQUESTS (related to Live Link):
If either of the following exists, please let me know (I didn't see anything that immediately jumped out at me).
1) Ability to Enable/Disable Live Link (in the Bin) to one or more Master Clips that are already linked.
2) A Bin Column for Live Link so it's possible to discern how the file was Linked. The Column could simply be called "Live Link" and just include the text "On" when it's in use, and be empty when it's not.

Thanks all!

Cheers,

Benjamin

Re: [Avid-L2] Non responsive apps (slightly OT)

So far my OS jump for 10.9.5 to 10.12.5 hasn't been too rocky.  I did initially jump to 10.12.0 and then after a few weeks on that I ran the combo updater to get to 10.12.5.  At that point I started to have wacom whacky behavior that wasn't just in Avid. A new driver and ultimately a new pen resolved that issue.  I found once I went to Avid 8.6.4 I started having some quirky wacom related hangs.  Those did not go away till 8.9.4 so I stayed at 8.5.3 till 8.9.4.

I haven't really hammered on my home system hard but I will soon be working on 8.9.4 Avid on Mac OS 10.10.5 at work so I will see how stable it is.  I might have an underpowered, vram, GPU at work so that might be an issue.  The reason I jumped to Sierra was to support multiple GPUs which I have two TitanX cards in an expansion chassis with a GTX-680 in the tower.  Without Sierra the OS only saw the TitanX cards as generic gpus.  Once the OS was upgraded they appear with the proper name etc..  It did take some fiddling to get the correct nVidia driver for my system build so I could auto update the GPU driver.

How has that jump in OS worked out?
I love 10.9.5, but am being dragged kicking and screaming to a newer version of the OS.
Is the OS stable, particularly in Avid?

What are the three cache folders called?  By "permissions" do you mean repair permissions on the mac side.  Now that I'm on Sierra 10.12.5 there is no longer a repair permissions in disk utility as far as I know.  I assume Mac OS 10.11.X still has permission repair but I jumped from 10.9.5 to Sierra so I haven't worked on that OS.

A few months back we upgraded from Win7 to Win10 and stayed on MCP 8.9.2.
Has been running rock solid ever since - no crashes at all.
But we did two important steps: Win10 was a clean install on new (SSD) disks and we upgraded BIOS on the motherboard (which was 4 years old) .

Re: [Avid-L2] Non responsive apps

To access the user Library folder, hold down the Option key and you will then see Library as an option in the Go menu. There is an "under the hood" way to get the Library folder to display in that window without holding down the Option key, one of our engineers set up one of my systems like that a couple years ago, but I think it involved a Terminal command.

Oh I posted before seeing this response.  Forgive my lack of experience in this area.  When you say "drag the specific permissions of Avid" are they located in the Preferences folder?

When I look on my MacPro mid 2012 12 Core OS 10.12.5 I don't see Library listed in the user folders I doo see it on the root of the startup drive but I don't see anything there that is labeled as Avid.  Is my newer OS different or am I just looking in the wrong place?

I'm no having any issues just trying to learn more about the under the hood stuff.

Make sure all  your apps are closed. Drag the cache to the trash, drag the specific permissions of AVID to the trash.

Do not empty the trash.

Reboot.

Launch AVID

Do not empty the trash until you're up and running.

How does one go about safely cleaning these three folders of cache files and permissions? As Tina Fey said, "I want to go to there."
