[Avid-L2] MC 6.5.2 and OSX 10.8.3 Upgrade Safety

A few days ago someone asked about whether or not it was safe to upgrade to OS X 10.8.3, as far as MC is concerned. I didn't see any follow-up on that. I personally have MC 6.5.2, and would love to do the OSX upgrade, but obviously only if it doesn't wreck anything.

Anyone?

Re: [Avid-L2] [FR] Markers Window + Return Key

Yes! The locator window took a giant step backwards when? The late 90s? I remember much more robust version of it once.

I offer:

Jesse, I'm near you(in NJ) and I have Media Composer 6.03 installed at home on my Mac Pro. I can transcode your ProRes media to DNxHD using this system. I travel to NYC every day for my real job.

[Avid-L2] Re: MC 6.5 Media in 5.5

This isn't a codec question- 5.5 Does not do this, plain and Simple. screwing with other software will muck up your metadata.
Ask the facility support folks to install a 6.5.2 build on it- they should have an image, and it should take 45 minutes or less to get running.

Since the "Kids In The Hall" reference was for something that ended about 33 years ago for "I'm crushing your HEAD!", 'crushing blacks' is something that continued to occur until much more recently. My comment was about the comedy show.

The media files appear in the mediafolder as *.mxf
due to the wrapper avid puts on them.

Just out of curiosity can he bring the ProRes files into MPEGStreamclip and export them to DNXHD?

I'm not sure if it's possible from ProRes, but DNXHD is listed in the mpegstreamclip export options.

Re: [Avid-L2] MC 6.5 Media in 5.5

Bouke,

It's just ProRes as you know it wrapped in MXF. So in effect, Avid media.
Prior to v6, if you had some ProRes, it could only be linked via AMA and
transcoded to DNxHD or some other Avid recognized codec. In v6 and after,
ProRes is now recognized and usable as a codec within Avid (media creation
settings). All flavors of ProRes show up in Media Creation settings as
ProRes 422 MXF, ProRes LT MXF, ProRes HQ MXF, ProRes Proxy MXF, and in RGB
projects, ProRes 4444 MXF.

Re: [Avid-L2] MC 6.5 Media in 5.5

Just don't make problems where there are none.
Get any old FW drive, use carbon clone copier to copy your current OS,
boot from there and do whatever you want.
I run about 5 different OS's on my mac, just require to select a bootdrive,
and a boot to get to another OS.

But what is this ProRes MXF? Never heard of it...

Where are you located? Perhaps a fellow user can help? Or surely
someone near you has a macbook or iMac. This is an easily solvable
problem.
