Re: [Avid-L2] Marianna - Does a new MC v.6 license work with earlier versions of software?
Re: [Avid-L2] Marianna - Does a new MC v.6 license work with earlier versions of software?
Sorry if I was unclear. I use dongles- I can't say if it will work with software license. I would guess not, but that's a guess. 5.5 will work with a 6 dongle- though mc won't run on a symphony dongle.
Hope that will help.

Thanks for this reply, but actually I'm wondering if newly purchased v.6
software would run an older version (as opposed to an upgraded system
that is already blessed for earlier versions of the software.) Any
experience with this scenario?

Re: [Avid-L2] Marianna - Does a new MC v.6 license work with earlier versions of software?
Yes- I can say first hand. I had a couple system on upgraded dongles that were still on 5.5 software for a little while until I could switch the OS to 10.7.

A Boris Red tutorial would work too. I don't think there is too much difference between the two.

[Avid-L2] Re: OT: Wired article and 3D rejection
Are you saying the manufacturers' convergence was not set properly when predicting 3D? That would really make it hard to skate to the puck. ;-(

[Avid-L2] Re: MC Class 205 ish tip to keep lumanence peaks down.
I ended up using the luma clip in much the same manner but I'm pretty sure it was the "Lighten Mode" in paint effect that would take anything over the threshold, which I believe was controlled by amt slider and make it 100 percent. For some reason trying that the light seems to go all the way up to 255 well over 100%. Perhaps I'm misremembering but I know it was something we were using on water footage with hot specular elements and this helped clip it. Perhaps it's time to email Tamara.

I was shown a way to use Paint Effect to make Lumanince peaks legal. by setting the Amt control using a full frame Lighten effect you could dial it so the peaks over 100% would only be 100%. I'm trying but not getting the results I want. I think in class we did it to a still or footage of a waterfall where the spectaculars were over 100% and the effect made the highlights all 100%. Perhaps I'm misremembering the effect but I'm pretty sure it was a mode in Paint effect. I'm trying to knock down a bright window in the background of an interview to avoid having to roto a darken paint effect. Does anyone remember that tip/trick or have another suggestion to knock down the luma on the bright areas of the screen. TIA

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: OT: Wired article and 3D rejection
Without glasses without glasses without glasses without glasses. 3D at home will never take off until the glasses are gone. It's all about the glasses, people, and the they way people relax at home (and to some extent about the 'dimunition' of physical objects that are supposed to be huge, but when "literalized" in 3D, become laughable).

It's part of the normal install. Has been for years. It's an AVX affect and should be at the top of the effects palette. I have a Mac at home and it came as a separate disc to install with its own serial number

[Avid-L2] AvidFX
Tony there're tutorials on YouTube by Boris FX as well as on the website. I'm not sure if Avid has any. Just remember that avid FX is just Boris red renamed.
It's really simple to use and pretty intuitive. BCC effects which I'm sure you are familiar with are just a subset of red.
