Re: [Avid-L2] Apple Time Capsule with Media Composer 5...

Glad it works, but using it as a media drive is asking for trouble. Apart from the fact that you won't be able to consistently get fast enough throughput, the unit is going to run hot as hell, as it has no fan to cool the drive. It was not made for the high demands of video editing. It was meant for backing up simple documents in a home environment. Its probably got a cheap model Western Digital or Seagate drive inside.

Re: [Avid-L2] MC 6 bug fullscreen playback tearing

I had a similiar problem with fullscreen tearing on 6.0.1.1 on Mac.
Found the console command "moncon off" largely solved it, in combination
with turning "Flip on Vertical sync" ON in the Fullscreen display settings.

With MC 5.5 we've been running from Mac Pro towers 8 cores, LION, from the DVI out to HDMI turaround cable directly into our Samsung and Sony 40 inch lcds beautifully
using fullscreen playback. With MC 6 latest patch we have tearing problems with the same drives same files, dnxhd 175x. Changing fullscreen settings does not aliviate the problem,
so we've had to downgrade to 5.5. Is this a reported bug?

[Avid-L2] [OT] Sitcoms + Avid Multicam Examples?

Hi all,

Here I am again with another offbeat request for assistance.

I'm doing a bit of writing and I'd like to include a reference to two current,
high profile/well known sitcoms edited with MC's Multicam -- one US example and one UK example is my hope.

Any suggestions?

As always: TIA!

Re: [Avid-L2] Alterntaive to VNC for LAN

On Macs you have the app Screen Sharing at this path (normally not exposed to the user): /System/Library/CoreServices/Screen\ Sharing.app

I believe that's what's used by Remote Desktop, but this way, it's also accessible without that. If the video doesn't come across, then you could simply run a video cable from next door, and look at the video on your broadcast monitor. Not sure about the sound, but you could also run an audio cable...

Hi Guys, I'm having some difficulties to use my time capsule with media
composer. Avid don't read it as a Media Drive. It's connected via ethernet
cable and appears as media drive on Snow Leopard.

Anyone knows how to make Media Composer read it properly?

Thanks,

We love it, but as mentioned, you have limited frame sizes available.

Re: [Avid-L2] The new tracker kicks ass?

What steady glide does is stabIize the image but keeping the movement of
the camera as opposed to the old stabilizer that "fixes" a point in the
screen. Steadyglide registers the displacement of multiple points at the
same time, and then reduce that displacement proportionally resulting in an
image that is stabilyzed and and also with movement. The auto-stabilze was
introduced in v5 but I'm pretty sure that I was able to select steadyglide
in v4 also, it was not the default option but was already present in that
version if I'm not mistaken.

Changing the display aspect ratio in QuickTime Pro will affect playback in
QuickTime Player; but, it is not guaranteed that other MP4 players will
respect that setting.

I just did a test playing back a scaled movie in VLC, and that player did
NOT respect the modified display aspect ratio, in either a .mov or .mp4
container. Pixels were interpreted as square.
