Re: [Avid-L2] New licencing

Or... Just view it that this upgrade was 299 instead of 500 and be happy :)

I could just phone support up for a chat once a month just so I get my monies worth  I guess!

Why do avid make simple things so complicated – even the document explaining it makes little sense..

The support contract covers software updates, too. In the past you would have had to pay for a .0 or .5 upgrade. Now that's gone away, as you always get the most recent version, as long as you pay your $299/yr/license. But... If you let it lapse for a year, you have to buy the license again, including any options, like Symphony. Then you will have two licenses - the old one and the new one.

Well, Avid used to have a product that was resolution independent and could handle any size still and manipulate it however you wanted whilst updating RT on the Timeline along with text and all other clever stuff...

They EOL'd it last year.

that's true - I was not able to AMA without the INDEX.MIF and a (hidden) folder called JOURNAL.
Per default they live at the bottom of the CLIPS001 folder.

BTW, if AMA does not work this trick from Luca is great:
You can import from different subfolders at once: open the top folder and search for *.mov files, or the proper extension, in the search results window select all the files You wish to import, drag and drop them in an Avid bin, don't forget to set Your import preferences as for target disk and resolution first; there's not such a technique for AMA linking that I know of however.

saved me a lot of time last two weeks, thanks Luca!
Happy weekend

This topic has been covered before, but it's important to have the correct file structure when mounting an AMA volume, otherwise it won't work. Make sure that whoever copies the card copies everything over - some of the non-media files are required by Avid to properly AMA the cards contents.

To see the previous discussion on this topic and see the correct file structure, follow the link below...

Re: [Avid-L2] c300 won't AMA

I do this with this camera ALL the time. You're probably pointing to the wrong level of folder. If you're not AMAing with the camera card attached to the computer itself (in which case, just point to the card), you need to have a folder level ABOVE the CONTENT folder. So, when I copy C300 footage to a computer hard drive, I always create a folder for EACH CARD and label it something descriptive like "C300 051514 A" Then to AMA it into the Avid, just do an AMA Link and point to the DESCRIPTIVE folder you created instead of the CONTENT folder.

Is there a new trick?

Re: [Avid-L2] Pan and Zoom Appears as Black

Adobe can't really get ScriptSync ever actually. Nexidia owns the ability to match the phonetics with the text, but Avid owns the patent to have this work with a script in the way that it does, so Nexidia would need to buy or license this from Avid, which they would probably be loathe to do.

Re: [Avid-L2] Pan and Zoom Appears as Black

I thought it was the other way round? No more Avid FX (due presumably to a licensing 'issue' with Boris, who make it) - I haven't heard anything about Marquee going away.

Clever!  But not easy I'm afraid.  I'd rather put the effort into learning Avid FX.  Especially since Avid just made Marquee obsolete.

[Avid-L2] Re: ScriptSync and Phrase Find no longer available

Dave

We do appreciate the updates.  I think what the issue here is the communication from Avid is reactive, not proactive. The SS and PF thing is a really big deal to a segment of users...a very important segment to your company's future.   This is not an issue to be just left in the Read Me or the kb.

The head-scratcher for me is why Avid didn't let everyone know ahead of time, very publicly (rather than having Alan find it and post it here) and "take the legs out of the issue" right away or simply hold off on the v8 release until these contracts were settled.  If you had posted on these and other forums something along the lines of "hey folks, MC8 is just about ready.  We are still negotiating a contract with Nexidia for PF and SS licensing. Once that is complete, the initial release will happen....", there would be far less "spinning out of control".

The way this happened makes it look like Avid was trying to sneak one by on us.  I am sure that is not the intention, but you should understand the outside perspective.

MHO only, of course....

David

we get it and I politely suggest that your engagement with the -L and other customer forums is a much healthier approach than the imposed radio silence that used to be the Avid corporate response in the old days.

Don't forget to dish it out as well as take it on the chin ;-) Knut can handle it ;-)
