[Avid-L2] Sonnet and Avid

Anyone using the Fusion R800raid with 8600 for uncompressed HD.

Looks like it should work just fine. Anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: SR tapes with the Telefile label affixed to spine - New???

Holds more data than that. reader/writer is built into some cameras
and decks. The F900 camera, for example. Seems like more of an
archival/retrieval system. But I don't really know a whole lot about
Telefile. Check the PDF below (same link as in earlier posts):

[Avid-L2] MC5 on my Dell... WinXP or Win7?

I just picked up Media Composer v5.x for my personal use at home. Checking the readme, I see that my computer (Dell M6300 laptop) is only qualified to run MC5 on WinXP Pro 32 bit.
I was thinking of upgrading the OS to Win7. Has anyone tried this? I don't want to spend the money for the new OS if I'm just going to have to roll back. Also, since v6 will be 64 bit only, I'm wondering if this laptop will be qualified for the next release at all.

thanks in advance,

So is it actually telling the deck what type of tape stock it is? Instead of the punch outs at the bottom for betasp/digibeta etc.... I'm surprised I've never paid attention to this or had an issue hmmmm.

As I understand it, it's basically an RFID tag, similar to those stuck
in pets. As expensive as HDCAM-SR tapes have become, they're still
cheaper than a trip to the vet...

Re: [Avid-L2] SR tapes with the Telefile label affixed to spine - New???

As far as I know and can remember SR tapes have always had the telefile on them. Older HDcam tapes did not. What makes me think this? Because when we first switched from HDcam to HDcam SR I got a tape and wanted to put my own printed label on there and was annoyed that there was a label already on there. So I pulled the label already there off and put my own on there and put my own on there. Well low and behold I go to put the tape in the SR deck and it spit it out because the telefile label wasn't on there.

[Avid-L2] Re: SR tapes with the Telefile label affixed to spine - New???

So it's like an id barcode like chip that gets scanned for metadata. Is this for automated playback systems or general vault type tape tracking or both. Could I use one of these labels on my dog? Instead of a trip to the vet for an ID chip just find an unused label and voila no lost dog. Of course this will change when I switch to file based canines. ;-)

That's what they predicted at NAB. Good news, I guess - still that's 4- 5 months before prices start to normalize.

Or so Sony said in a press release yesterday:

Although the Tagajyo Plant [the only plant that makes HDCAM SR, I

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: SR tapes with the Telefile label affixed to spine - New???

My memory, supplemented by Google, says the Sony Tele-File is a fancy
label with a memory chip stuck on standard Sony tapes... Ah here:

The Tele-File™ System is a data storage/retrieval system contained
within a 1/2-inch
cassette label. This system can be utilized with models from the Sony
HDCAM™,
MPEG IMX™ and J Series production lines. An IC memory built into a
Tele-File memory
label enables a wide range of production-related information to be
stored and accessed
using a non-contact read/write system. This information typically
includes details on the
content of the tape, the time and date of a shoot, scene information,
shot marks, and so
on. Keeping this information with the cassette and having immediate
access to it at all
stages of content creation can significantly improve production speed
and efficiency, and
can also play a vital role in maximizing the value of media assets.

All our tapes have the telefile label on them. Maybe you just never noticed before? Check any SR tape you have on your shelf. It should have that label on there.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Resolve MXF not reading in MC 5.5.1

Hey all,
We've just received some dailies that were exported from Resolve in MXF
format. We're trying to get them into MC 5.5.1 but it is not liking the
media format. I'e tried soft importing, putting them in an Avid made
AvidMediaFiles folder and deleting databases, etc.

Another post house that is dealing with the same footage said they had to
roll back to 5.0.3 in order to see the footage and then transcode from
there.

Is that our only option here? Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Scott
