This sounds like the effect I'm seeing, although with some variations.  I agree that courtroom testimony is rarely random, but in this case, you see the attorney making the selection in real-time, even if it was planned beforehand.  Do you know if Powerpoint animation effects can be pre-programmed for repeated use?

You can achieve similar, with pre-planning, in PowerPoint and Prezi as well, just not the random highlighting/expansion.  Very little random highlighting will happen during a trial.  They are heavily choreographed.
