Re: [Avid-L2] Opening current Avid projects and bins in (very) old Avid software

Sorry Dave, not in front of a system right now to dig menus and provide a step by step guide, but the F1 key should be of help! Demote has been with us for quite a while now, maybe since the introduction of AVX2 effects and advanced keyframes, or even before.

Regards, Luca

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

Re: [Avid-L2] Opening current Avid projects and bins in (very) old Avid software

While I am quite familiar with promoting sequences, it automatically happens all the time when I get sequences from EDL or old AVIDs…

I've never "Demoted" a sequence.  Wasn't aware that functionality exists.  Please enlighten!

You can open any project on any MC version, if it's a huge time travel it might be wise to create a target project with the very same name of the source project (case sensitive!) and moving only the bins back and forth between workstations. As for loading sequences, depending on the MC releases, You may need to demote a sequence on the latest release to be able to open it on the earlier one, while when going from the early version to the latest one the software will prompt You to promote the sequence.

Thanks, Roger. It's nice to see a lot of the names of the editors who have been here for a while now that I've retired and you are still very helpful.

Re: [Avid-L2] Market for the cheese grader Macs

Thunderbolt is not supported on any Cheese Graders. Sonnet has a USB3.0 card for 57 bucks https://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-Allegro-4-Port-Windows-Compatible/dp/B00GRGCV2G

Recently, a few VFX/MG friends were still buying cheese grater Mac Pros. But which model do you have? The PowerPC G4 processor was used in a Power Mac housed in a vertical plastic case. When Apple went to the PowerPC G5 processor, they introduced the metal cheese-grater case:

And Apple kept the same basic case design when they switched to Intel processors in their Mac Pro line.

So a Mac Pro 4.1 and 5.1 still holds some value. Those were made from 2009-2012 (working from memory; double check the dates but that's about right). With 40GB RAM, etc, maybe you could get $1000 or a bit less? Prices from one reseller:

But an older Power Mac with a G5 processor? I recycled mine when the cooling fluid started to leak. But even if it hadn't leaked, I don't think it would have had any value, and that was five years ago! (or so).

Is there any after market for the Cheese grader G4 towers?  Ive got a souped up one with SSD, 40GB ram, 2.5 TB internal storage that is collecting dust.  Time to clean out the office.  I see a few on Craigslist but I feel it would not sell.  Anyone have recent experience unloading these?
