[Avid-L2] Re: Multiple Wacom Tablets/Drivers on MBP? It works follow up

Well I heard back from Wacom support that I should be able to run both drivers. I loaded the current driver for my intuos 4 table and it worked but my graphire went to doo doo land. After playing around trying every graphire wireless driver I found the the latest graphire compatible driver doesn't work for my graphire wireless blue tooth pad but the one just before it does work. With that one installed my graphire acted properly and I then reinstalled the intuos 4 drive and both are playing nice together. The later graphire wirless drivers actually come up in mac system preferences as bamboo. If I had to guess what the original problem was I think the pre bamboo drivers might come up in system preferences as Pen Tablet and seem to fight with the intuos tablet driver. At least that's what it seemed like after trying every driver going back to 2004. Man do I know how to live on a Friday night. Now if only wacom made pocket protectors I'd be sporting some new swag.

[Avid-L2] Re: A cool Tip for ama's version of ignoreQTrate from Job

Well then thanks to Frank and you for reminding me once again. In fact if you could just email the tip every day for a month I like to think I'd remember. I just don't know how I use to remember anything before email folders. ;-)

Re: [Avid-L2] Server Space

Check out strongspace.com

you can create public or private links to your files and can also give your
clients their own logins. You can also upload via sftp.

It's pretty cheap and you can ask them for however much space you need.

[Avid-L2] A cool Tip for ama's version of ignoreQTrate from Job

I saw this on the Symphony forum courtesy of Job ter Burg and it sounded very useful so I emailed it to myself to remember in cyberspace and I thought others would find it helpful. :

For IgnoreQTRate, that only works for traditional File->Import,
and ONLY for video-only QT sources. As soon as there is audio present in
the source QT (even silent audio), the audio sample rate will prevail
over this console command.
For AMA sources, you can pull these up or down using SetAMAQTForcedFrameRate true 29.97 -- or whatever frame rate you would like, and SetAMAQTForcedFrameRate false 0 to turn it off again. If the file has audio, this will drift out of sync as it will not be processed.
Alternatively, or actually the only official method: when using AMA,
just bring in the files as they are (23.976), splice them into the
sequence, open the motion effects editor (for each individual clip) and
change the Motion Adapter's speed to 100%. Sound will not be affected,
and therefore run out of sync.

[Avid-L2] Re: Effects Mode Stopped Displaying Effects

At the risk of both appearing to be talking to myself and exposing my ignorance in a public forum, I want to post that I found the inevitable operator error. My gift to the next editor unwilling to read onscreen messages.

I've just spotted in the bottom of the screen, "FluidMOtion Edit Requires Full Quality." The text is in white and in very fine print and I kept missing it over the very white shot I was working with. I simply have to toggle the Video Quality Menu and everything turns the requested lurid color scheme of FluidMotion Edit.

Now, I just have to figure out how to work with it.

Yes, Windows update will install the nVidia driver as an "important" update and cause you no end of fun. If you use autoupdates, hide that sucker.

This was an update in the last batch of Windows updates I just did. I restored back to before the updates and all is fine. When I did get the version 306.97 error, however, I did not see that version in the Nvidia card. Where would I find that?

Shoot. I'd also like to offer my apology for the packed together look of
my posts. I have posted from both Safari and Chrome, but have yet to
figure out in Rich Text or not how to insert a double return between
paragraphs.

OK, well I guess I should have written 'bingoish.' I'm still not able to
see anything when in FluidMotion Edit (I've never really had any luck
with FluidMotion Edit, but that really would be a new thread).
Selecting 'Show Vectors' from the Display portion of the Effect Editor
has no effect on my display and when I single-frame frame advance
through the Composer window while in Effects mode, the Master tc display
and the image indicate I am advancing two frames at a time through my
50%-speed clip. In other words it is not displaying the interpolated
(perhaps not the right word when discussing FluidMotion) frame. Playing
the rendered FluidMotion clip in Effects or Edit mode, however, shows
all the frames and their artifacts, as does single-framing through the
clip in Edit mode.

RE: [Avid-L2] UK mobile phone provider recommendation please

If your phone does Wifi - and I am sure it does - JiWire allows you to type in a place name and search for local free wifi spots among the 25,000 or so on its database. It's also worth checking Free Hotspot, and Hotspot Locations. In addition don't forget about Fon; in the UK BT are a big provider of home wifi and all their hubs come with Fon turned on. So, my home router has most of the bandwidth for me behind a WPA password but it dishes out a little bit to the other BT Fon subscribers out there to use for free if they are BT Wifi customers.

So, if you want to you could become a Wifi customer and save data that way. http://www.btwifi.com/

Greg,

Take into account that a UK provider will also charge hefty rates if you use that phone in another European country. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a pan-European phone or data plan. There are world SIMs, but they're not cheap when it comes to data.
