[Avid-L2] Re: True 24fps into MC7 again

I too had good results with the Brorsoft converter for the video. I can't seem to get my split audio tracks to come across separate. The MXF shows mono in Brorsoft while it plays correctly in the Canon utility. Has anyone else experienced this?
BTW, FCP imported and converted my 24FPS fine. Though the audio issue remained.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!
Chris

RE: [Avid-L2] Help - converting ProRes to DNxHD on a PC

The problem is easily fixed; don't use ProRes ;-)

I don't know if its circles...it's certainly gone off the rails...the
OP did not even have ProRes files...they were Apple Uncompressed 10
bit...and his problem was easily solved way up thread.

Everybody wants to find a way to get a PC to make ProRes files, as if
that's some kind of holy grail.

[Avid-L2] Re: Title tool colors

It's a bug and Avid is aware of it. The "Safe Colors" don't work in the Title tool anymore.

[Avid-L2] Re: os compatibility chart for Avid

If your installed OS is v10.8.4, you could try applying the v10.8.3 combo updater that Mark linked to. If Apple doesn't have any checks in the Installer that will prevent you from running the v10.8.3 combo updater, it will be the closest you will get to a v10.8.3 install. The combo updater overwrites every single file related to the OS that has changed since v10.8.0 was released. In theory, it should allow you to downgrade your OS. The only place this would fail is if v10.8.4 introduced an entirely new file that did not exist in v10.8.3.

This is another reason to keep your Install Mountain Lion app from the App Store in a safe place.

[Avid-L2] Re: Can you switch color spaces?

Standard DNX 220 definitely works in Resolve. RGB might give more range in color correction etc... it depends on the final delivery concerns. For TV DNX 220 is fine although I have recently found it easier to use the Red Raw when taking an Avid project to Resolve for a round trip train wreck.

[Avid-L2] Re: Can you switch color spaces?

Steve was asking on my behalf. We were doing our first Avid MC v7 to Resolve v9 roundtrip last week. I made the mistake of reading the Resolve manual and found this on page 186:

"Step 1—Create a Project in Media Composer
1. When creating a project in Media Composer, take note of the image format details, as these
should be matched in DaVinci Resolve. In particular, set the image format (e.g., 1080p/24) and
raster dimensions (e.g., 1920x1080) to match your desired mastering format. Also, color space
should be set to RGB 709 if you're planning to send ingested/transcoded media from Media
Composer to Resolve for grading.
Note: This information can also be found in the Avid Project Format tab."

I'm guessing that it might just be a typo or misunderstanding in the writing of the manual now. I'll do another test with YCbCr media this time in a project on Monday.

Re: [Avid-L2] pro res export seems washed out

Hi Lou,

I found online the following recommendation:
Try different QT Export filters to match the image:
Brightness: between -12db and -14db; Contrast:between -3db and -5db.

I am exporting my 1080 seq to pro res for delivery but the blacks seem washed out a bit. Blacks are not as rich at all. I know I am looking at the QT on my apple monitor but still should look a little better.project is YCbCr 709 and I export with color levels set at 601/709. Should I export RGB?
That does not seem to change much.

Re: [Avid-L2] Can you switch color spaces?

I just finished preparing an Avid project for round-trip through Resolve
at a facility that seems to have a well-tested workflow. Their delivery
specs made no mention of such a limitation, and all footage was
delivered as DNx175x (so YCbCr) with no complaint so far.

Cheers,
