[Avid-L2] Re: [Editing-List] NAB EXHIBIT PASS CODE?

Worked like a champ!!!  I had googled but the codes I came up with had expired.  Now what will I do with the extra 50 bucks?  Oh I know is there still the Sponge Bob 4D ride at Circus Circus.

I just found out I will be able to attend NAB.  I've been sent a bunch of free exhibit pass emails but I guess I didn't bother to register as I didn't think I could get off work.  Anybody got a vendor code or link to get a free exhibit pass.  I'm going to reach out to my vendor contacts but if anybody has one of those emails still I would give it a try.  I called the info number and apparently I need a code to qualify for a free exhibit pass.  If all else fails 50 bucks is what the site says for exhibit only.  TIA

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

[Avid-L2] Re: OT: There goes the air waves neighborhood.

Here's  a brief summary of the spectrum auction  Seems like less money was spent than was projected.  That seems odd given the way broadband seems to be gobbling up everything they can.:

Comcast, DISH, T-Mobile drive bidding in spectrum auction

T-Mobile was the highest bidder in the Federal Communications Commission's spectrum auction, paying almost $8 billion. DISH Network spent $6.2 billion, while Comcast bid $1.7 billion of the total $19.8 billion proceeds, significantly below analysts' expectations.

Comcast spent only $1.7 billion to acquire spectrum during the FCC's just-completed Broadcast Incentive Auction, coming in short of analyst projections.

Purchasing through CC Wireless Investment, Comcast bought 10 MHz of spectrum covering about 145M POPs in its own footprint within New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Philadelphia.

MoffettNathanson analyst had expected Comcast to spend up to $6 billion at the auction, while New Street Research projected the MSO to spend about $4 billion.

RELATED: Comcast to participate in FCC's 600 MHz incentive auction

The forward auction generated $19.3 billion in net proceeds, with Dish Network emerging as a surprise big spender, laying out more than $6.2 billion.

"We had expected Dish to be a de minimis player in the auction," Moffett said in a note to investors today. "Dish's spectrum spending underscores the growing importance of the company's valuation as it relates to their spectrum holdings."

T-Mobile US led spenders, coughing up nearly $8 million to buy 600 MHz of spectrum. Among the top wireless companies,  AT&T spent just $910 million and Verizon spent nothing.

In the reverse incentive auction, NBCUniversal sold spectrum in three duopoly markets, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia, receiving proceeds of $481.6 million

"There are three big surprises here," Moffett added. "Comcast bought less than expected, Dish Network bought more, and Verizon bought nothing at all."

The Mac partitions should recover ok but its less hopeful for the ExFAT.
ExFAT has less redundancy.

[Avid-L2] Re: Can't save profile in DPX ama file export dialogue box?

Should have said frame count not fount.  Also I'm on MC 8.5.3 Mac OS 10.9.5

Every time I go to export a DPX in my 4K 4096_2160 project I have to tell it to use time code for frame fount. Use 10 bit RGB instead of default 8 bit. And use legal not Full Range levels.  Usually I am exporting a entire show but today I'm doing patches so this need to repeat this for every patch is frustrating.  At the bottom of the dialogue box I noticed a "Save Profile" button but it is greyed out and does nothing.  What am I missing?  Is there another way to access the ama file export that allows profiles to be stored.  I am accessing things by right clicking in the Rec monitor.

Re: [Avid-L2] Hard Drive repair & Data Recovery

On the bright side, given that your hard disk spins, it may mean that the heads haven't wedged themselves onto the drive platters, and possibly damaged the surface. It could indicate that the heads are stuck in their parking position, or that you've damaged the electronics.

Don't know if you've heard of Louis Rossmann, but he seems to have a good reputation for repairing computer gear. He has his own YouTube channel, and runs a repair shop in NYC. You might want to take a look at the video below, where one of his staff repairs a laptop drive with a bearing failure, by simply moving the platters to an identical case.

Both of my repair guys paint a pessimistic picture regarding the data recovery, with costs ranging between $1000-3000, but a Google search seemed to turn up places that all boast cheap rates and 90%+ success rates -- places with clean rooms in NYC like Secure Data Recovery, Fields Data Recovery and Proven Data Recovery.

Does anyone have any experience with these places, or any like them, and have one to recommend?

We're talking about a 750 gb hard drive -- 2 Mac partitions and an ExFat partition -- with half of my freelance life on it...

(Yeah, we'll talk about proper back-up procedure some other time...)

Thanks all!
