Re: [Avid-L2] AvidAppManHelper.app

it's still part of the Avid Link engine. You can just quit Avid Link once you have Media Composer up and running. For the Avid Application Manager, try using the Uninstaller to remove, if it's not there, then just delete it.

The old Application Manager was replaced by Avid Link some time ago, so why is the AppManHelper app still running? I thought the Application Manager was supposed to be uninstalled, but it's still in the Avid folder in the Applications. Can I safely remove it? TIA <Screen Shot 2020-12-23 at 5.11.40 PM.png>

Re: [Avid-L2] Questions about subscription licenses for Avid

Kenton,

There are backward compatibility version requirements…..

https://www.avid.com/search#q=backward%20compatibility&t=KB&sort=relevancy&f:@sfdatacategoryproduct_level_2=%5BMedia%20Composer%5D

Subscriptions are not backward compatible past 2018.9.

Thank you very much.  That answers the question.

Marianna, I very much appreciate all your assistance and hand holding over the years.  You have always been very helpful and exceedingly patient.

I hope you have a peaceful holiday.

Hi Jay

If you get a new subscription you can use 2018.9 or higher as that is the version were we changed the licensing and 3rd party so it would need to be that or higher.  If you wish to use MC in a NEXIS environment, you need Ultimate for bin sharing etc.

Hope that helps and Ho Ho Ho

All my licenses that we've been using for years have been perpetual. I've never had one of the newer subscription licenses from Avid, so I have a question that I can't figure out how to locate the answer to. I'm probably just not figuring out the correct terms to focus my search, but anyway….

If I get a brand new subscription license can I run older versions of MC? And how far back will that work? What is the oldest version of MC that will work in an ISIS/Nexis environment will a new subscription license run?

Also, to work in a ISIS/Nexis environment I will need an MC/Ultimate license, correct?

Thank you very much.

Re: [Avid-L2] Questions about subscription licenses for Avid

I believe that the subscription allows you to run any version from v2018 onwards. The subscription isn't available on v8.x and earlier AFAIK. One of my long time clients has two machines on subscription (one perpetual), all 3 are still on v2018. Because they have an active subscription, they could (if they wanted to) install any version up to current release without incurring an upgrade fee.

The license is what you're subscribing to, not a specific version.

And, yes. You will need Ultimate for any shared storage connectivity. But, Ultimate also includes PhraseFind, ScriptSync and Symphony, so it's well worth it.

That's a new term for me.  I'm using disk utility and adding one or more partitions.  I'll have to look up what an aligned partition is.
