[Avid-L2] Re: MC 5 Stabilize bad behavior

The shot is a pull out so I was able to stabilize the hitch in the zoom but it is still a pull out. This is using region stabilize with both progressive and auto zoom checked. Perhaps I'm missing the obvious but I wouldn't expect a zoom out to become a locked shot with no zoom at all using the avid stabilize effects. You would need a stabilizer with multiple points to lock down to keep the framing static. Perhaps someone with more compositing experience can suggest such an effect. Also I was just on my laptop so I didn't critically analyze the results for the usual stabilize effect jitters I often see when the land of offline figures it's easier to throw on a stabilize effect instead of finding a steady shot. And they wonder why when it goes through me the effect is removed. ;-)

[Avid-L2] MC 5 Stabilize bad behavior

After 10 years of watching Avid turn daydreamy camera shots into lock-offs,
and now 8 months of struggle with Version 5, I ask-- What happened to this software?
I don't care about the cute trick of invoking the effect when it's dropped on the time-line;
or all the new buttons... I've tried them all, I think.
At the end of the day, the shot that should be rock-solid is wavering unpredictably.

Here are links for a bin with a 2-second sequence and the media.

The result I'm looking for here-- what I used to achieve easily-- is a shot that doesn't budge.
Can this still be done?

I would go with the faster clock speed and better video card.

Re: [Avid-L2] Eight cores, or twelve?

The additional cores will do nothing for core Avid applications. Some plugins and other processes like Marquee may benefit. The cores can certainly help when multitasking with other applications whether or not they are multithreaded. While there are some applications like After Effects than can harness many cores. However truth is they need at least 3gb of ram per core to really shine and can use more!

I would go for the better video card and shoving as much ram into an 8 core machine with the faster processor clock speed.

You will love the z800

It's Symphony 5 with Nitris DX running on a fibre-attached Lanshare, if that
matters much.

Re: [Avid-L2] Why does my AAF not export

I guess my reply didn't make up on the board. It turned out I figured this issue
out. I had to consolidate the sequence and then export and everything was fine.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Why does my AAF not export

Hi all,

I am having issues exporting a 74min Sequence in AAF or OMF Symphony 5.
v.5.0.3.7

I am getting an error that reads: The audio and video options must both be
enabled to be compatible wiht AMA clips. Export is cancelled. I found 1 AMA clip

and transcoded it. But I'm still having the issue.

Any clues how to resolve this?

Open the console that may give more info.

Then try sub sequencing it down to isolate the clip that's the issue.

[Avid-L2] Lost Transfer Settings

Dear L2 Listers,
I was setting up the process for the Avid MC5/Isis 5000 to transfer mxf files between the edit trailers and the F&F Remote trucks for a World Cup Biathlon up in Presque Isle, Maine. Loaded all the EVS Avid Tools software on both sides and configured Transfer manager and transfer client the file started to transfer and then stopped. it was determined by EVS that Avid transfer engine 2.2.0 is not supported by EVS. I uninstalled Avid Transfer Engine 2.2.0, installed Transfer Engine 2.1.0, Transfer Client 2.1.0 and now the transfer line under project setting had dissapeared. I can not get it back, tried reloading all the Avid transfer software, no luck. Avid is suggesting I delete MC5, Transfer files, etc and reload. I am very leary about doing this since the MC5 I have been trying to use to link with EVS is also the machine I am using as the Isis 5000 administrator with four clients attached. Any thoughts on how to get back the transfer setting?

Avid MC5 5.0.3.4
Isis 3.1.0.2140
Transfer Engine 2.1.0
Transfer Client 2.1.0
EVS Xfile 2.13.04
EVS XT2 10.03.39

Thanks for reading and for any help provided

Of course I wouldn't!
If I was going to have to repeat that 300 times in 2 hours I would be dragging the effect icon to all the other clips I wanted to apply the same effect to.
If I didn't need to do the hypothetical 300 times in 2 hours just then, I would drag the effect icon into a bin and use it when I needed it later.

Re: [Avid-L2] WHICHEVER NLE GETS THIS TECHNOLOGY WILL RULE THE EDIT SUITE

Unfortunately I didn't see this link until about 10-hours after we delivered
the tele feature we've just completed - as it's now on air in less than 20
hours there's no time to recall it, but by gosh this is a technology we
could definitely have used!

I will try to ensure we include this technology in my 48HOUR film this year!
God knows we need all the help we can get!!!

[Avid-L2] OT: Letterbox vs Center Cut on Network Direct TV feeds?

On my direct tv satellite boxes which are SD I notice that NBC is usually letterboxed matching what I get off my DTV OTA receiver.  CBS and ABC seem to be center cut.  I believe sometimes in prime time things might be different on ABC but CBS is always Center cut at my home in LA.  Curious who makes the call for how these local network stations are displayed.  I don't know if it's a factor but my SD Direct TV boxes are some of the very first units on the market back when you had to buy the hardware.  If it is a hardware phenomena I'd expect all the local net affiliates to be centercut or letterboxed but not a mixture.  Is there some AFD metadata that is included at the station level or is this direct tv?   If I had my choice I'd like them all to show up letter boxed.  My set is fed video through svhs or composite video out of the satellite receiver.
