[Avid-L2] Re: Avid Titler+ is seemingly unusable in it's present state?

I'm glad I'm not alone in confusion.

I would suggest by, "not slagging it" perhaps you are enabling bad design.  ;-)  I've learned the hard way sometimes you have to love something enough to tell the truth about it.

Of course it's better to be in the solution than the problem so I'm holding out hope I will gain some enlightenment that gives me a moment of Titler+ clarity.  I'd hate to have to call my sponsor and blame Titler+ for a relapse.  ;-)

One font at a time I guess.  Just breath.  Time for a late Saturday night OKI Dog!!!

For anybody reading this thread, you really need to try the new title tool to fully understand. It's using some logic and conventions which many of us are unfamiliar with. I would go so far as to suggest in a typical Avid environment it's different enough that an operator would find it a challenge for anything but the simplest titles. We could start with the fact there is no SELECT arrow, selection tasks are done by context.... you cannot select two or three lines of text and left align them.... or if you can the selection method is not immediately obvious. Gradients are assigned by corner, so if you need a horizontal gradient you need to program two corners in an identical fashion,,,,

So it's just version 1, and in my training I do not slag it, but neither do I want my associates trying to fight their way through it. I am sure in upcoming releases these initial shortcomings will be addressed, and in the meantime we have three other title tools to choose from!

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

Yes Roger, I have been a lurker for a while but still doing mostly work on Avid across Canada. Mostly for the CBC, but also other broadcasters. I also do a lot of Adobe work now. Again, on my own with my own courses..

I was an Avid Instructor - ACI But they kicked me out because I was not affiliated with an avid authorized educational center. It made no sense to me, I work with fairly high-end people on AVID's every day of the week.. I was an excellent AVID ambassador. So I immediately went and started offering my services as an Adobe trainer. Oddly enough, that side of my business is growing. Still, most of my work is AVID. Media Composer, MediaCentral and MAM.

I am travelling today. So I can't get the beast out and have a look at that question about keyframing position. I have enough trouble just selecting the font, without trying to keep frame it! I suspect all we're going to be able to do is use the effect editor to move the font around the screen. That would kind of makes sense because that's all we could do with the old title tool. Still, I want to have a look and we can compare notes.

Good to hear from you..... more to come!

Paul

Hi Paul - long time, no contact! I, too,am concerned about this. Some of it is rather like NewBlue (which I suddenly like a whole lot more after encountering T+). One question - have you found a way of animating position? We can get it to roll or crawl but no position parameter, unless I am being dumb.

I have been looking at this too. I was so concerned I emailed Marianna privately off list because I initially thought I was doing something wrong.

[Avid-L2] Avid Titler+ is seemingly unusable in it's present state?

I had heard Kevin M was coming out with a tutorial but I haven't found it as yet.

I can't begin to figure out the architecture of the interface.  If I type a new text object or create a new text object I end up with a square box that the text just types around.  After initially typing I can use the justification buttons and the entire field, if that's the correct term will act as expected.  Once I start clicking outside the field then I can never get the text object to behave the same with the justification buttons.  Once it has been deselected then the justification button effect the text object as a whole and the text withing.

I get this behavior could be useful but it's also useful to be able to select the text and re justify it relative to itself.  Think two line lwr 3rd or subtitle where you want to change from left justify to center etc...  I can't find the way to do that.  The help menu is primitive and doesn't address this in any detail.

I can't believe Avid thinks this is a tool ready for release.  I'm sure I have some operator error but when the select text or select field buttons don't seem to do what I would think they would I am beyond frustrated.  With title tool it's basic but the choice between dealing with the actual text or the text field/object are easy.  I can't believe this atrocity shipped.  Yes I hate fonts but this takes it to a new level even an OKI dog won't fix.

If anyone has figured out how to get text justification to work once they have clicked off the initial text typed please let me in on the secret sauce.
