Yes. And NewBlue (which I'd grown to like) requires you to pay for it after being bundled free for years. T+ is better now than when introduced but still has a little way to go.

Yeah, that's a complete non-starter for me. I'll move to another editing platform before I use one with a non-native titling app. I hope Avid reconsiders this decision.

Background

Avid-L was established in 1994 at Calvin College by Steven Koster.

It was created to be a forum for Avid users to meet, discuss, and share

information.

Avid-L quickly grew into the premiere on-line users group for

professional film and video editors. It was one of the earliest examples

of an Internet community, allowing hundreds of editors worldwide to

share their experiences and expertise with their peers. There was no

better place for a professional Avid editor to get such wealth of

informed professional advice.

At various times, individual subscribers volunteered services to the

group. Searchable archives were maintained by Germany's Berlin Users

Group as well as the UIUC. A tips & tricks list was posted by Andy

Birkhead of Innovative Edit. Wes Plate, a longtime contributor, not only

shared key techniques on his Web site, he also created a photo gallery

for members' portraits.

In 1997, several subscribers began a tradition of meeting in person at

the NAB trade show in Las Vegas. The first gatherings were organized by Jaime Fowler. In 1999,

Avid Technology itself began sponsoring these gatherings as an exclusive reception and seminar for Avid-L members only.  In 2002, this changed to the "Avid Users Group" meeting.

By 1999, Avid-L boasted over 1600 subscribers, exhibiting a true

international scope with over 300  international members. The community

included participants from a wide variety of well-known corporate

organizations in broadcasting, technical, and content creation fields,

as well as and  multiple local TV stations, colleges, and universities.

In 2000, Avid-L joined AvidProNet.com, and then, in 2002, was integrated

Into Avid.com.

In 2005 Due to problems with signal to noise ratio and abusive posters, the Avid-L2 was formed. A year later the Avid-L was discontinued by Avid.

At the middle of 2006, the L2 has around 1100 members, with plenty of "lurker only" members who simply use the web version of the list.  The L2 is spam-free, by moderation and with Groups.io’s tools and will remain that way.

In 2019,  the Group has migrated to Groups,io from the previous Yahoo engine-   the Groups.io page  maintains the complete Avid-L2 archive.    The original Avid-L archive has been lost to the history of the interwebz.

Welcome, and Enjoy!

Extras!

With a Groups.io account tied to your subscription to the Avid-L2,  you can use the web features of the Group.

Calendar  Various Avid events are in the Calender.  If you have an event you'd like posted,  pull down and fill out the Calendar event request and send it to any Moderator

Database - The database area contains Avid Feature requests,  Help Wanted,  Freelance Listings and For Sale sections.  Feel free to add your listings to any of these areas.  Job Postings will remain up for 1 month.   Please date all postings to the database areas, being pertinent is a good way to be.

Files-  The files section contains various sundry files, including the latest Avid release notes.  Check back often for changes.

Photos -  Pictures of your Avid setup are welcome, or pictures relating to a post you need a photo to explain.  Photos will be posted after moderator approval.  Who knows, your picture might grace the front page for a while.

Links-  Various helpful links, including direct links to Avid CPR releases can be found here, also the link to the archives.

Re: [Avid-L2] Public Beta | MC 2020.2 | macOS Catalina

Have you tried to use it?  The fact that I find New Blue easier to use is unbelievable to me.  I'm cranky but I have tried to  give Titler+ a chance and as I posted New Blue did a better job of promoting an Avid standard Title tool.  I've yet to find anyone who has embraced Titler+.  I know for sure none of my offline editors are using it.  Losing the basic simple interface that was title tool is a complete FU to the legacy user base.  I'm not saying title tool was great but it served a basic purpose and everybody knew it's basic operation.  The fact that so many find Titler+ unintuitive and get confused by  the selection process, which I still don't understand, shows some very serious design mis-implementations, if that's even a word.  The concept of give me what I've always had and add on to it is completely lost to me in Titler+.  Sure it has more power but the basics do not follow traditional title tool simplicity IMHO.

Re: [Avid-L2] Public Beta | MC 2020.2 | macOS Catalina

Perhaps the Titler+ is improved in the latest version but just last week I tried promoting Title Tool to New Blue V7 and Titler+ and New Blue did a much better job although it wasn't perfect.  I know my titler+ skills aren't strong but I would think if anything the initial promotion from title tool should be smoother with Titler+ than New Blue but that has not been my limited experience.

Getting close folks.... You all know that we anticipated releasing a new Media Composer, January 31, 2020 in support of macOS Catalina. Well, the product teams inside Avid wanted more eyes on this release to ensure success so we released a Public Beta yesterday, 1/30/202 for the next 2 weeks.
Why are we doing this?: Given the number of technical changes required to run on macOS Catalina, we want to make certain that Media Composer runs as expected before we do a wide release. While the traditional Beta program will continue to test this release, we wanted to release the beta to a wider customer base to get as much testing and verification as possible to ensure success. All of us who post here from Avid are very happy about this decision and of course this will provide additional internal and external testing, so the foundation of the release will be as solid as possible. We are committed to building upon this release in the months ahead.
Important Information on this Public Beta: As this is a beta release, there are known issues and limitations that you should be aware of prior to installing. We do NOT recommend installing and using this beta release in the middle of a project.
Titling: There is NO Title Tool or Marquee Titler application inside of MC 2020.2 on macOS Catalina. You will be required to use the "new" Titler+ for all titling that is done within the application, so you need to be aware of this BEFORE jumping into the Public Beta pool.
Location for Download: Users who are running macOS Catalina (v.10.15) can download the Media Composer 2020.2 installer from the Avid Download Center and install it. You can Login to your MyAvid Master Account and access the Download Center. The beta release is under (Public Beta).
Support: If anyone experience issues with this software release, they will NOT be able to get support from Avid Customer Success as it is not an officially released software version. However, we have added a new forum to community.avid.com called Public Beta MC 2020.2 | macOS Catalina http://community.avid.com/forums/395.aspx
specifically for this beta and will have Avid personnel monitoring and advising should that be needed. We will also monitor here as well.
Knowledge Base Documents: Avid is providing documentation in support of this beta release. These have been provided to the public via the Download Center and Knowledge Base .
Knowledge Base Documents
- DRAFT - What's New for Avid Media Composer v2020.2
- Media Composer File Type Limitations on macOS Catalina
How long will the beta run for?: We will run the beta until we officially release Media Composer 2020.2 in mid-February 2020.
What if I'm not on Catalina?: The beta release of Media Composer 2020.2 will install on non-Catalina macOS versions. Users are welcome to use and test this version on non-Catalina systems and provide us with feedback, however the primary focus for this public beta is testing on macOS Catalina.
Important: If you are posting to the Beta Forum, Avid-L2 on Yahoo or AEofFB, please indicate the exact OS being used in the subject line of the post. Best to Post to community.avid.com and the Public Beta forum to ensure your comments are captured.
Do you need a license to run it?: Yes, users will need a license of Media Composer, Media Composer | Ultimate, or Media Composer | Enterprise with either an active subscription or active update and support plan. Alternatively, they can run Media Composer in Trial mode.
Are there limitations or known issues?: Yes. As this is a beta release, there are some known issues and bugs. Additionally, there are known limitations when running on macOS Catalina. I encourage everyone to review the doc's (links above) prior to upgrading and installing.
Questions.... ask away - several of us will be online to answer any questions you might have.
Remember - best to post your issues here:

Re: [Avid-L2] Importing Sony files in 2019.12

Great call Bob!!!!   The top folder was Doc title but the second tier folders are dates and they contain "/".  I changed to a "."  and files loaded.

Thanks so much.  I've caught these before but with so little work last year and much of it on Premiere, I have gotten rusty on the Avid.

Re: [Avid-L2] Living in the last decade....

We have been doing pretty extensive mastering and camera acquisition with XDCAM for the last ten years, although we're starting to phase it out. The two USB devices, PDW-U1 (USB 2.0) and PDW-U2 (USB 3.0) both work great with Avid, the "Export to XDCAM" works great, you can include captioning in those masters. We also have the PDW-HD1500 deck with SDI in and out. We used to use this deck to batch capture when we were in a proxy workflow- proxies are built in to the XDCAM disc format so it's very easy to use a proxy/hi res workflow. The PDW-U2 are pretty scarce used, while there are quite a few HD1500's for sale used. You may actually be able to find an HD1500 cheaper than a PDW-U2 new price.

Since we will only be using it for deliverables, I'm wondering if the USB drive (PDW-U2) is the way to go, with Avid's "Export to device..." or if it is better/faster/more stable to use an XDCAM HD deck with all the usual HDSDI ins & outs, RS422 control, and Digital Cut.

Re: [Avid-L2] Importing Sony files in 2019.12

Thanks.  Still not working.  Not able to AMA or import footage.  I will have to contact Avid Support.

Make sure any old Sony plugins have been uninstalled

The nablet XAVC XDCAM Plug-in is the successor of the former Sony PDZK-MA2 plug-in. Note that the nablet plug-in and the Sony plug-in cannot coexist on the same system. The installation of the nablet plug-in guarantees a seamless transition* in your XAVC XDCAM editing workflow after the Sony plug- in had been uninstalled.

*Note that clips in an editing project which have previously been linked by the Sony plug-in will show same plug-in name in the bins clip info although the nablet plug-in now handles them. This is because the Avid application stored the initial information persistently.

Note: The nablet plug-ins and the legacy Sony plug-ins cannot coexist on the same system. Having them both installed will result in unpredictable behaviors of the editing application.

Ive got 2019.12 installed and DP is dropping off media for first project.  Shot on Sony camera.  But Avid won't AMA and import only crashes system.   What codec is not here that I need.  The esoteric and complicated Sony codec site does not really help.  Im downloading what I can and trying but still no luck.

What am I missing here?

Thanks
