Re: [Avid-L2] Avid App Manager: "Update Not Allowed"

Without trying to pile on, I agree.  I hope that's not costing much.

3 Mbs is just about enough bandwidth to play the AOL "You have mail" recording.

For what it's worth, the downloading is very fast.  A couple of minutes for me.  Certainly not hours. I don't have an exceptionally fast internet connection.

[Avid-L2] Re: Avid App Manager: "Update Not Allowed"

No it doesn't and the engineers are working on making it easier and fixing some of the issues that still exist.

One thing to note.....

SW Licensing based systems ( activation ID's )  -   if you renewed your plan recently, you should deactivate/activate the license in AppMan in order to update the license to the new Support & Upgrade plan date.  It is NOT necessary to update your license in this manner if you are not performing a software update.

I.e you renewed your plan say in December of 2015  so your time period is Dec 2015 to Dec 2016  but still plan to run 8.4 for example.  If you are on 8.4 and renewed your plan as I stated, and now you want to upgrade from say 8.4 to 8.5.1, then you must perform the deactivate/activate the license inside the AppMan in order to update the license to the new time period date in My Avid.

If your upgrade and support plan is successfully renewed, but you are not going to upgrade your software version at this  time, you do not need to deactivte/activate your license now but will at some point throughout the plans year if you upgrade your software.

Dongle based systems ( USB dongles) - It's all about your support dateSay you had an upgrade & support plan valid from Jan 1, 2015 to Jan 1 2016.

You then download a dongle updater on or around November 2015 and update your dongle to use say v8.4.2.  Then v8.5.1 comes out 3/10/2016.  The upgrade & support dates on your dongle are Jan 1, 2015 – Jan 1 2016.  That means you can run v8.5.1 without having to do anything – it looks at the BOD (born on date) of v8.5.1 to see that it falls in between your support dates, and lets it run.

Then you renew the upgrade & support plan (Jan 1 2016 to Jan 2017) but you don't update the dongle.

The dongle still thinks your upgrade & support plan is Jan 1 2015  - Jan 2016.

That's ok as long as you are running a version of software that was released in between those dates (1/1/15 - 1/1/16) which v8.4.3 and v8.4.4 and v8.5 were.

However........ If  you want to run something that was released in say January 2016 like v8.5.1 was or any date in 2016, you need to update your dongle via the My Avid angle updater so it has the updated support dates.

My hope is this will get much easier as we move forward....

Re: [Avid-L2] Avid App Manager: "Update Not Allowed"

Here's how it went down for me...

Booted computer.
App Manager launched and said there was an update for App Manager.
I installed it.
App Manager relaunches but does not show MC 8.5.1 being available.
I uninstall MC 8.5 using the uninstaller
MC 8.5.1 now shows as being available.
I install it.  No problems.
