Re: [Avid-L2] Standard Meal Policys?

Today would be a particularly bad day to get killed driving home. Please be careful. JB

As I'm going on my 27th straight hour at work cranking out a Network Prime Time show for Sunday night I'm trying to remember how meals work at the network level.  When I worked at ABC there was a mandatory meal after 5 hours otherwise there was a meal penalty which ABC didn't want to happen.  It's been a long time since I've dealt with this in my freelance gigs but given I'm on a network show can anyone remind me of the sort of basics of how often meals should happen?  Of course I've worked through the last 27 hours straight with no meal breaks at all but I'm curious how 2nd, 3rd etc... meals are handled in general on a 24 hour plus shift.  I could say I'm tooooooo OOOOOLLLLLDDDDD for this but empirical data suggests otherwise.  Oh well Rubin needs a new pair of shoes and some treats so I'm not going to complain.

Re: [Avid-L2] Avid FX Question

When you shorten a RENDERED AvidFX/Boris RED effect MediaComposer assumes that the remaining part of the effect does not need re-render. This is of course wrong. So you must provoke a complete re-render. You can either change any parameter inside the effect - any little change will do - or you can have MediaComposer remove the render of that effect. In both cases you will see the higher speed of the effect due to the shorter time.

You do need a bit of care and expertise to upgrade the 4,1 due to Apple using weird lidless processors but the 5,1's are easy because they switched to conventional ones.

Many thanks, however I see that 'Keep Keyframe Time' is already unticked!  Not sure what to try next. I hate to ask but any chance I could email the effect to one of you guys?

Re: [Avid-L2] pros and cons of trashcan mac pro

Sorry about the shameless plug but, since we are on the subject of smoking iMac, I thought this might interest some of you.

In January I bought, from the Apple refurbushed store, a IMac 27", 14.2, late 2013, 3.5GHz, i7 with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M graphics processor with 4GB of GDDR5 memory.
8 Gig RAM, 3 TB fusion drive.
I paid CDN $2800.
Last week I changed my mind a bought the latest iMacRetina 2016.

If anyone here is interested I'm letting it go for $1800 colourful canadian dollars.
Still has 11 month of AppleCare.

Caveat? Pickup only in Toronto.

Do you recall if he's talking about the late-2016 iMacs? i.e., the latest/current ones? Or earlier models?

I honestly don't know, but I get the feeling he's been on the iMac for over a year. Both the iMac and MacPro are probably of about the same vintage.

Re: [Avid-L2] Avid FX Question

I spoke too soon. This setting can be found in the Keyframe Palette (Window->Show Keyframe Palette). Untick "Keep Keyframe Time" and then you should be able to set your duration in the effect editor and the keyframes will adjust accordingly.

Which version are you running? If I recall correctly, on older versions, there was a preference setting to "Keep Keyframe Time", which would lock the keyframes. Untick this box and the keyframes should be elastic based on the time set in the effect editor. I say older versions--I'm running FX6.4 and I don't see that setting in preferences. But I may be missing it. It seems the elastic keyframes are turned on by default.

I have been given a relatively complex Avid FX effect.  The duration is 1 second but I need it to be faster - say 15 frames. But changing the duration in the Effect Editor causes the animation to be incomplete.  Is there a way around this?
