Re: [Avid-L2] pros and cons of trashcan mac pro

If you are at all handy working inside a computer case, the pre trash can Mac Pros (4,1 and 5,1 only) are quite upgradable.  I got a cheap 8 core 2.26 GHZ 4,1 and upgraded it myself to a 12 core 2.93 Westmere, which benchmarks close to a Mac Pro tube, for a fraction of the price.  Not bad for a home system at all.  If you don't need Thunderbolt, it's a good option.  The older Mac Pro towers are far more flexible, since you still have PCIe slots. You do need a bit of care and expertise to upgrade the 4,1 due to Apple using weird lidless processors but the 5,1's are easy because they switched to conventional ones.
