Re: [Avid-L2] Erratic trim mode

Check to see what keys you have "Next Edit" and "Previous Edit" mapped to. Those are the ones that make it go into Trim mode. Maybe they're mapped to your cursor up/down keys, and you're slipping off the shift key? On my system (same MC ver.), I have FF/REW mapped to cursor up/down, and I specifically don't have "Next Edit" or "Previous Edit" mapped anywhere as I don't like their functionality.

I have FFW/REW mapped to my shift up and down keys to jump between edits. Most annoyingly avid will go into trim mode not all of the time but at least 30% of the time. I have seen this behaviour before when running avid on a mac and never solved the problem.

Any ideas for a fix?

Re: [Avid-L2] reminder: grab mac OS now

When the upgrade is downloaded, it will launch but wait for your prompt to go ahead and install. At that point nothing happens until you either say OK or quit the installer. From here, you can save the installer and make your bootable drive.

To add to this: make sure to keep your Apple installers on a volume that is not indexed by Spotlight. It would appear (correct me if I'm wrong) that the App Store can find and update applications even if they are moved from their original locations based on Spotlight metadata. You may find that your version .0 of something automatically updated (for your convenience) whether you like it or not.

Downloading my copy now....

As a reminder to all my friends on the list:

Grab the new Mac OS (Yosemite) while it's still in its .0 stage, and burn your USB stick now.
Download from the app store - but make sure to quit out of the installer before it actually installs on to your machine.
Then follow the instructions here to create a USB installer to keep for later:
http://www.iclarified.com/44701/how-to-make-a-bootable-os-x-yosemite-usb-install-key

Now that you have this .0 version - any time you need to install a specific version of the OS, you can start with this .0, and run a 'combo update' that you will find on Apple's support pages.
For example - if you needed 10.9.2 - you would find that here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1726
(google is great at finding these links when you phrase it like this 'combo update 10.9.2')

Having the .0 stored away for later use is great when Avid wants a .2 version, but all you can download from the Apple store is a .3 or .4 version.

Please note, I'm not suggesting installing Yosemite on editing machines that you want Avid to support right now! ;)

Re: [Avid-L2] Avid 8.2.0 Download for mac patch vs. software?

I see what you are talking about:

"Mac and Windows Patch Installers

Patch installers are designed to install on systems with v8.1 currently installed.

For Full Installers go to the Media Composer | Software page on the Download Center"

That was typical of the PC side before but I'd not heard of the change on the mac side as they have always been full installers even on the patch page hence my need for clarification.  I guess this means I now have to go and download Ver. 8.1 as well as already having downloaded Ver. 8.2.

Did you find the answer?

It's right there on the Patch page.

Re: [Avid-L2] Avid - Baselight

Hi Oliver,

I've tested the color match feature with the cheapest color card.  I asked Alexis Van Hurkman which of the three might be better and he felt that the cheapest would work as well as the most expensive.  It works really well and you can color correct for any editing platform before using the clips by importing the clips into resolve, dropping them into a sequence, applying the color match to each clip and exporting them as individual clips to a folder of your choice.

Compared to other editing programs, the resolve editor seemed very basic.

Best Wishes,

Paul

The quicktime plays without bad playback issues?
I'm getting stuttering and blocky color on my test.
Is there a setting you use to play out smoothly?
thanks,

I answer:

I'm using LogMeIn Client version 4.1.4667 (Pliugin 1.0.1001) on my MacPro running MacOSX 10.7.5.
The computer being viewed and controlled is a MacBookPro running MacOSX 10.9.5.  The LogMeIn Client on the MacBookPro is the same one as on the MacPro (version 4.1.4667 with Plugin 1.0.1001).

Re: [Avid-L2] Avid - Baselight

Here's the stuff I was remembering.  These are really nice and pricey.  I'd love to catch one of their demos at the next NAB.  I think it would be very informative to see the ingest/camera setup side of the color correction equation.

I believe it was Steve H. who said DSC has seminars at their NAB booth on proper use of their charts.  That would make for an interesting Editor's Lounge guest IMHO.  How bout it Terry?  Perhaps DSC would like to "Chip" in to an editors lounge and teach us all how to keep our charts and our levels chipper.  ;-)
