i would also:

- zap the pram

- swap aja cards

since the issue is not present on the older install/same hw, and also not present on all new installs, it could be non aja related, but somehow masked by the card. check network and fc proper operation on affected machines. also turn wifi/bt off if applicable.

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

[Avid-L2] Re: MC / Kona 3 = spinning beach ball

Already seen a lot of great suggestions, swapping the HDs is an excellent one.  I have been swapping out HDs between Mac systems for years.  Not a limitation as in Windows systems.

You may already know this, and your post infers the correct install order.  Installing AVID Media Composer clean on the system BEFORE you have installed ANY Aja software or drivers is crucial to a correct install of the Aja drivers for Avid I/O.  Here is an old  PDF on the Aja website referencing this (page 4, "Installation Order"), though this document is from earlier versions of software, when you installed Aja drivers and Open I/O drivers separately, now it's one installer.

I routinely use the Kona 3 card on Windows 7 systems, where a similar timeout issue can come up.  My test in Windows as to wether install order was done correctly is by opening the Hardware Setup (at the bottom of Tools menu, where Video Output is on a DX system).  On a properly installed system, it will automatically open the Aja I/O panel, on an improperly installed system it will time out, and you have to open the I/O panel in the OS.

Not sure if this works the same on Mac systems.

Looking forward to seeing the solution on this, best of luck.

I know I've also had firmware upgrades on the I/O express boxes a few times, maybe wouldn't hurt to flash the kona card again?

I know it's no help, but we have on system running that configuration with no issues.  (Well, the fan is always on full blast, but that's probably a side effect of the 12-core-cpu upgrade or a broken sensor.)

What's funny is that machine used to be our 'uncompressed 444' machine.  Remember when that was a thing?  Running fcp7 with dual-link sdi to the SR deck because a filmmaker knew that would make his movie better?  I guess prores444 has replaced that, but the issue hasn't come up in a long time.  'Can Shoot this on an iPhone' comes up more often.  But the kona card keeps plugging along.

As I said, even a clean instal from the ground up has the same issue. I will try moving that drive to one of the working systems on Monday and see if the problem follows.

That's a clever idea Marcel. I have never moved a system drive between systems. Does that work on a Mac. Are there any computer specific things that Apple installs during a system install? I always assumed an install was unique to a computer, but maybe that's a bad assumption.

I did a clean system install on one system and only installed MC and the AJA drivers. Still having the same problem. Versions of all software are identical to the systems that don't have this issue. Any ideas? Does it sound like 2 Kona cards have gone bad?
