[Avid-L2] Re: Media creation settings in v5 resetting

And the ability to unmount a drive that AMA automatically mounts. Now you pop in a USB drive and you can't eject it until you quit out of Avid.

YEah - that's been on my list for a while. I set up a new system last
week and, as usual, I have some "must keep mounted" drives / volumes
which I prefer to keep ".hidden" from the Desktop and other places
(they're mirrors / targets for clones and backups). Unfortunately,
the Avid app sees these hidden drives as well and of course at some
point media ends up on them. It's inevitable.

[Avid-L2] Media creation settings in v5 resetting

Sometimes when I go back into a project in v5 the drive that the
system wants to default capture to has switched back to an extra
internal drive instead of the Unity workspace I want it to. But not
always. And it doesn't affect the default location to import to,
which is that same Unity workspace. Am I missing something? Or is
this just a bug?

Oh, and FR, a better media drive management system. Like a list of
all the drives that the software thinks that could be used as media
drives and buttons next to each one so you can set them as acceptable
or not acceptable media drives. Like boot drive, other internal
drive, usb drives, network drives, my iPod, etc.

And add the option that when a drive is added if the default is
acceptable or not acceptable.

Thanks,
Jay

I think most folks would be appeased with two simple things. Add a slider for text brightness and add the ability to option-click the highlight patches and call up a color picker. Hopefully that's easy programming and can make it into a patch soon.

More of a patch, actually and it works well for 4.x and 5.x. Could I UL it

[Avid-L2] DX and 1080p24.00

Anyone successfully having their Nitris DX reference to a 1080p24.00
Tri-Level Sync source?

I have a Mutec Smart Clock 3.2 HD. This used to feed one line of PAL BB and
one line of 1080p24.00 TriLevel into my classic Nitris. Just traded it in
for a Nitris DX, which will not recognise this very same signal.

Anyone else seeing this?

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: #$&%!! Interface Settings

I also think it's part of a rewrite. I generally have no problem with
simplifying the UI settings and I think the slider idea is pretty
good.

I just wonder why there are no "subtle" color options of highlights
etc. I'd think most people don't want their NLE to look like a candy
store, right?

[Avid-L2] Re: #$&%!! Interface Settings

I suspect part of this change was to clean up some old, bad code. I recall in the old settings, on Mac OS X, some of the shading options ended up with dimensional highlights looking corrupt on screen. Even so, there is still icon corruption. Quite a few folks have commented on the trim value icons being corrupt.

My biggest complaint right now is that light text on a dark background is only available on the lowest setting and that has a contrast ratio that's too high. If you want a medium gray BG, then your text is very hard to read. Font smoothing is also bad. Quality of UI text, especially when you change fonts and sizes is extremely poor on Mac compared to every other application.

They should take a look at Premiere Pro or Smoke or even the Magic Bullet apps for UI ideas. Right now if you want a dark UI, those are much better rendered on a Mac (probably PC, too) than MC5.

Re: [Avid-L2] #$&%!! Interface Settings

in the bin go to text view. Make sure the Color column is visible.
Click in that column and the old list appears. The drag is that you
can't set more then one clip at a time that way.

The worst part is that by using the color picker under the Edit menu I
can find a Red that matches the Red of the old menu. And when I do
set a color for a clip with the new color picker under the Edit menu
if I highlight that clip in the bin and go back to the picker there is
no indication as to which color I picked for it, so setting other
clips to the same color can be a bit hit and miss.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: #$&%!! Interface Settings

I think there was a message from the designers picked up from the
forums along the lines of "We know . . . we are at a half-way stage at
changing things . . . bear with us". I hope they do bring back some
of the missing features - and please let us set the I-O highlight
colour to something other than the Selected Segment highlight colour.
FCP has them different (altho' you can't change them).

Exactly. No more changing your project window background (one I really
miss), no more button highlight, no more I/O color selection, no more
button contents color, etc. etc.

Please Frank . . . bring 'em back.

I like that you can now choose the highlight color in the bin . . .
great, add that to the list of selections . . . but please bring all
the selections back . . . they matter.

This only works for track colors when you uncheck "default tracks" in the Interface Settings window. Not highlight colors, such as button highlights.

Just read this on the Community Forums (

least you can tweak your timeline colors...

Re: [Avid-L2] #$&%!! Interface Settings

I also miss the old menu for "change clip color", I don't seem to find any
as clear as the old red, green, blue or orange.
Now I have acces to more colours options faster, but not as usefull as they
were before..

Am I alone in this one?

I suggest contacting the Film Archive/Vault departments of the major motion-picture studios. They keep every useable piece of film negative for archival & stock-footage purposes. I've seen several Moviolas at places like Paramount, et at. They should be able to work a deal with you for space, assuming they have it to rent.

Best of luck.

Did you post to the new address or possibly to the old address by

[Avid-L2] Tiff sequence import anomoly

We have successfully imported an HD 23.98 TIF sequence created in AE onto an Avid Adrenaline system running MC4.

Successful meaning the black and whites are exactly correct (16/0 to 235/.7) on the scope.

We go through the same process on a 5.0 software only system using the same files and the blacks are at 0 and whites at 255.

Anyone else run into this? What are we missing?

Re: [Avid-L2] font size

That'll work for your Project window, and Timeline too.
When you do it for a bin, every bin you make thereafter will have those font attributes.
