Yes, indeed, the Haight is no longer the place it was in the 60s.

You're pretty up on this stuff, for a Portland guy.

Best,
Shirley

Re: [Avid-L2] Time to fix the "Find" function!

Thanks Agustin! I actually did try copying and pasting from the script text, but oddly, I was unable to highlight text within the script and copy it as I had in versions past. I'm glad you mentioned this, because I remember using this technique before. Somehow, this functionality seems to have gone away, or maybe Symphony was just being as cranky as I was.

I also have the raw transcripts that were used to make the script file, so I suppose I could copy those over to the edit system, and try copy/pasting from Word to the Find window. Worth a try.

Best,
Shirley

Have you tried copying from script text add pasting in search box, that way the
apostrophe should be the same. If Avid finds nothing then I believe you found
something to be fixed.
If it's worth the effort you could open your scripts with a text editor and
search and replace all your "20's" for
"twenties", just a thought.

Agustin.

That would make sense, and I suspected as much. Except how do I type the
different types of apostrophes? I only see on character for that on my keyboard.

beside that, there are multiple apostrophes (well, they are different but
look alike, and have of course different char codes.
I highly suspect the problem to lie there.

RE: [Avid-L2] Time to fix the "Find" function!

Have you tried copying from script text add pasting in search box, that way the apostrophe should be the same. If Avid finds nothing then I believe you found something to be fixed.
If it's worth the effort you could open your scripts with a text editor and search and replace all your "20's" for
"twenties", just a thought.

Agustin.

That would make sense, and I suspected as much. Except how do I type the different types of apostrophes? I only see on character for that on my keyboard.

beside that, there are multiple apostrophes (well, they are different but
look alike, and have of course different char codes.
I highly suspect the problem to lie there.

[Avid-L2] Re: New edition of Steve Cohen's book

We have kindles at home that I don't use but I've helped my daughter delete files on hers by plugging into it. I figure I could probable rename the files but never tried. Could you do something like this by accessing your Ebook with a host computer and renaming each copy of the book uniquely? I would suspect some underlying DRM element would step into the equation but maybe worth a try.

[Avid-L2] Re: Hardware raid enclosure

What software/mechanism does one use to burn in drives? I assume that process would be to access the drive continuously in some manner. What is a typical set of tasks for drive burning in and does it make sure to access all sector/locations on the drive to test the stepper motor accuracy as well as durability? Sounds like something I should ferret out.

Re: [Avid-L2] New edition of Steve Cohen's book

You're making me feel better about my hoard of back editions of "Science Times," the Tuesday science supplement to the NY Times. I would actually be happy to be a solely digital subscriber to the Times. Most of the time I read the online edition anyway. But I can find no precise online equivalent to the Tuesday science supplement (though I might be able to dig it out of the Times Reader), and no real way to hoard it. Random science articles aren't enough - I want the whole enchilada.

Trust me, this is my feeling (crappy licensing, no transfers) with iTunes music
and media, iBooks, ebooks, audio books, electronic magazine subscriptions, etc.

This stuff is cheaper than ever for publishers to disseminate and yet we have
less ownership of the product that we "buy." My dad probably still has 200
National Geographic magazines that he can still read. My Popular Science
magazines on my iPad regularly "disappear" when I most want to read them,
requiring tech support just to read what I "own."

My point is just that if you have a license for one book, owning ANOTHER book
shouldn't kill the license for the first book.
