Nothing I hate worse then a badly edited message.
Cheaper is not always better. Yugo ain't around any more as a car company for a reason. Lack of features will not overcome a low price point.

[Avid-L2] Re: Now: MC to Symphony upgrade now Dual Boot Adobe Activation?
Yes it would- it would NOT however allow you to pop the drive into another CPU and use the activation there.

Thes are all good points, however, I need to clarify a couple of things:

DX hardware still offers some bonuses.
The following are NOT supported with Open I/O:
• Ancillary Data
• LTC I/O (Timecode over RS-422 is supported)
• Audio Punch-In
• Full Frame Stereoscopic 3D Simultaneous Capture/Digital Cut
• Hardware Codec Encode/Decode
• Multiple I/O Hardware Support in CPU
• Universal Mastering
• Thin Raster Timeline Modes
And in the words of Shane Ross, the DX advantages are:
- HD-RGB capture through dual link
- DNxHD encoding (dual stream) Hardware encoding, built into the box
- AVC-Intra encoding (dual stream), hardware encoding, built into the box
- Both DNxHD and AVC-Intra encoders in the box at the same time
- Full frame stereoscopic (3D) capture/monitor/output
- Thin raster format support (meaning that it takes the burden of stretching out anamorphic footage to full screen off of the computer and shoulders the task itself)
- Dual live sync
- Always active analog and digital audio monitoring

I don't know for sure as I have dongles. Everything else that is activated, Windows, MacDrive, Adobe, etc. works on the cloned drive.
[Avid-L2] Re: Now: MC to Symphony upgrade now Dual Boot Adobe Activation?
That's great so by cloning, Adobe among other apps don't look at any unique aspect, whatever that would be, of the boot drive and it only takes one activation. That's a great bit of knowledge, thanks for sharing. That's too simple for me to think of. ;-) So if I had a fully functional avid boot drive with software activation for the Avid and everything is working fine with all my apps if I clone that drive if I had a drive melt down then I could put in the cloned boot drive and Avid would still work, right? This would prevent the catch 22 of a drive melt down with software activation. I know I'm stating the obvious here but I'm trying to understand if any unique aspect of a drive itself is involved with software licensing. Moving that drive to another computer wouldn't work because the mac address and other things about the computer itself would not match properly. Does this all seem correct or am I missing something that could bite me in the arse?

Re: [Avid-L2] DVD Authoring Software Recommendations for Mac
We were using squeeze for Hulu- got the best results with mixed-format sources. Not working for that particular client lately. Is squeeze multithreaded? For review and approval movies we use Elgato turbo 264.

Same here. Squeeze does the trick for me except I have educational bundle so I can't use 360 or any mpeg codecs.

Really? I must have missed that. Yes, it's true. I had thought all
the 3rd party HW came with MC v5.5. But as I recall, MXO2 Mini WAS
the only 3rd party hardware interface at the time and it was only
capable of use as an output (display) device. No video/audio capture
capability.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: What should we do with our dongles! will mac 32bit kernel run mc 6 at 64?
But this is Mac OS X, so everything you've been told is wrong. In OS X, 64-bit applications can run on the 32-bit kernel and still run as 64-bit, and use all your memory (up to 32 GB). From Snow Leopard onwards, Mac OS X will run any 64-bit-capable app in 64-bit mode regardless of the boot kernel.

Resolve will work fine with the newer ATI cards for display. The NVIDIA cards are needed for the second GPU card to get CUDA acceleration. With only a single GPU card (ATI or cheaper GeForce card) you won't get true real-time playback and will have to render. Same as with Color. You do need the BMD card for video I/O, although you can run it just from the desktop display without any I/O card.
