Re: [Avid-L2] DVD / Bluray Printers?

We're using a Microboards - which isn't cheap, but it is automated. Ran
great for 6 months. Now runs like crap.

Also have an old Amtren machine - which had a horrible reputation, but
ours has run great. Ink is cheap and available at office works, or staples.

Used to run a single disc Epson. Pain in the butt to load the disc in
the cheapo plastic tray.

In all cases if you handled immediately it would smuge, but if you left
it dry for even 30 seconds or so, no problem.

If you use the watershield discs, you can rub them with your finger
immediately when they come out of the printer with no smearing or smudging.

Do these inkjet printers smear or smudge on the disc?

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

[Avid-L2] thunderbolt fibrejet imac

Hello Fellow Web-surfers, grommets, newbies, lurkers, trolls and custom-sifters!

In the time-honoured tradition of the L, I'm here asking for help without having contributed anything for years...

Reason being we've used alternate editing methods.

However, we just put in some MC6.5 systems. All good.

However, we want to run an iMac with thunderbolt to an existing Fibrejet storage system.

Yeah, I know.

Anyhooose, we've our tech support saying can't be done and commandsoft saying "sure it can".

I'm not wanting to prove either of them wrong, BUT we need the system up in the next day or so and I'm hoping someone on the L has wrangled a similar beast or combination.

Meanwhile, we've made a web reality series (made VERY cheaply, to raise interest in Networks and Investors...) which can be seen at www.wimp2warrior.com

Please watch from Ep 1 rather than Ep 7 which is on the landing page.

I produced it, co-directed, co-wrote, co-edited, co-shot and we did VO recording, grading and audio mix in-house with only a week to completely post each episode.

I did all the After Effects, too. Oh, and the Photoshop.

A two-man job.

For those interested, here's the schedule:
(sunday, upload previous episode)
Monday: meeting to plan what goes in, spend day thinking
Tues: rough out script, identify key grabs, figure structure
Wed: Start pulling grabs onto timeline and into sequences
Thur: begin refining sequences, plan effects needed, shoot whatever extra is needed
Fri: bring in 2nd Editor who refines while I do After Effects and finalise VO script, record VO. I also find extra bits requested by 2nd Editor.
Sat: last minute stuff. refine chroma-key, do most-needed grading, begin to balance audio
Sun: finish everything, export, encode, upload, send codes to web maven.
Monday: see above, repeat for seven weeks.

Re: [Avid-L2] DVD / Bluray Printers?

I've printed thousands of CDs and DVDs directly on the disc. As long as
you are using a quality disc, like the Taiyo Yuden watershield discs (now
JVC, I think), I've had great success with the Primera and Microboards
printers, although they are finicky. Literally thousands of discs printed
with printers from these two companies. If you are only doing "hundreds"
or less, you can expect very good results with both the Canon and Epson.
The quality disc makes the majority of the difference, IMO.

Canon. Ised to be they did't have the legal right to sell printers that print on discs in the US, but the software and printer tray is readily available on eBay. WAY better than the similar epsons. Just killed our third one- they last a couple three years, even with heavy use.

[Avid-L2] Re: DVD / Bluray Printers?

Also the small dedicated printers like the Dymo Discwriter and Primera z1 seem like exactly what I want, but all seem to be discontinued and I'm leary of buying something like this from ebay since I worry the inks and ribbons would become hard to find.

Re: [Avid-L2] DVD / Bluray Printers?

We've had great luck with our Primera. Several years now, with very little trouble, and great print quality, especially onto watershield discs.

[Avid-L2] DVD / Bluray Printers?

Anyone have advice on printers for DVD / Bluray? My past experience with this stuff has been horrible. I want to print directly on the discs, not labels.

Re: [Avid-L2] AVCHD and AMA

Right … all good on 10.7.5. I have to use AVCHD a lot. I think there is something in the MC release notes about this.

Re: [Avid-L2] AVCHD and AMA

Haven't tried this myself, as I have no AVCHD footage, but using this
utility you should be able to turn the Bundle Bit off, and once again make
the Folder structure appear as normal instead of a Bundle or Package.

You can also do it in the terminal, but I forget the exact command.

[Avid-L2] Re: AVCHD and AMA

Can you Link to AMA Files (not volume)?

That let's me see inside the AVCHD package.

Then drill down till you hit the Stream folder and select all clips within it.
