[Avid-L2] Re: Ver. 6 and Medianet compatibility?

I forgot about I/O express working with 5.5.3. That will be my next try. I have run Version 6 successfully on 10.6.8 on my laptop and my SNDX but as I said I was using an ethernet connection manager on the SNDX mac rig not fibre. Also I have my media for sndx on SanMP so I'm not accessing media from the unity ethernet connection very often but when I do I don't get errors at least when running 5.5.3. I hope this works back revving that would be very helpful to screen in HD.

The media shows as offline and when I open the source bins I get this elaborate error message for each clip something to do with assertion error....... chunk size=0. Same computer back on the original 3.1.1 system drive works but that version would not allow open IOl

Re: [Avid-L2] Ver. 6 and Medianet compatibility?

AJA i/o express is supported in MC5.5.3, so unless you really need something from v6, I would back rev. to the winning combination: 10.6.8/5.5.3/5.2

Also, 6.0.3 was never qualified to work on SnowLeopard. It's Lion only. Likely part of your problems.

Re: [Avid-L2] Xpress Pro HD Upgrade or OK?

I think you could go to 5.0 or 5.5 but 6.x required Win 7. I'm running NewsCutter 9 on a Dell Precision 650 under win XP SP3.

Start here, with the Avid Media Composer Version Matrix, which lists
Windows, QuickTime, and Nvidia versions.

http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/en267087

You may have to do a little bit of parsing to figure out the corresponding
Xpress Pro version.

I believe that MC 2.x lines up with Xpress Pro 4.x. I took advantage of the
XPress to Media Composer upgrade at MC 3.0, and lost track of Xpress after
that.

If you upgrade your license to Media Composer 6.5, and KEEP YOUR DONGLE, you
can still download and run older versions of Media Composer.

From what I know of running Media Composer on circa 2005 PC hardware, I
would expect that you could go as high as MC 4.05 on Windows XP.

[Avid-L2] Xpress Pro HD Upgrade or OK?

Hi all, I posted this on the Avid Community Boards, but the Xpress Pro section is archived now, so posting here in case no one is checking posts there any more, hope that's OK.

Haven't used my Avid system for years since becoming a screenwriter by trade, but need to cut an indie feature I'm directing soon. Will be shooting on the ubiquitous 5Dmkii and wondering if-

a) my current Avid setup (Xpress Studio HD 5.2.1, HPxw8200 3.4GHz DP, 2GB RAM, Quadro FX-1400, 2x500GB Internal HDD, G-Raid 500GB external) will handle the footage (is there a format I should transcode to for easier editing/compatibility, and a tool to do this)? I'm not sure if that's the last version I have download rights to, or simply the last one I installed, how do I check?

b) if not, what's the current upgrade path, and would I need to upgrade the PC too?

c) in either case, I need to be able to upgrade the OS on the PC if possible, as I had the luxury of leaving this as a dedicated edit machine back in the day, but will need it for other film related tasks and to connect to the web. I'm still on XP SP2. Would like to be able to upgrade to SP3 or Win 7, but have no idea about compatibility of QT or a myriad other factors now.

Sorry for the ignorant post but I'm literally years out of date!

Best,

James

Re: [Avid-L2] Motion Adpaters require render on a video mixdown in HD Mixed Frame rate?

If you're outputting, and you have any clips with green dots in the middle
(active motion adapter), those will require rendering before full frame
playback can happen. They will play back in in real time, but for any
outputting, I've always had to render the adapter. The weirder issue is
that someone mixed down these clips before putting them (mixed frame rates)
in the timeline? That was unnecessary and a waste of time. You can do a
mixdown or a render *after* the mixed frame rate stuff is in the timeline
and it will bake in the motion adapters. Check for green dots in the middle
of the clips - if they're there, it means the motion adapter is active.
Once you render or mixdown, the dot goes away (indicating it's baked in).

I guess I said the same thing a couple of times, but there you have it.

[Avid-L2] Motion Adpaters require render on a video mixdown in HD Mixed Frame rate?

I haven't had to deal with too much in the way of mixed frame rate timelines.  Today I had a mixture of 23.98 and 59.94I.  The sequences were mixed down and I received a sequence with just the mixdowns.  I opened it in a 59.94I 1080 project and when I went to output the 23.98 video mixdowns required a render.  Is this typical?  I was under the impression that the motion adapters were real time unless I promoted them to a full timewarp.  This is on a Mac SNDX 5.5.3 OS 10.6.8.  These were one video layer of mixdowns for a 12 minute sequence.
