Tried new user no help. Trashed MC state, site settings.avs, site settings xml and site attributes in the Avid MC settings folder. Still no joy finally trashed the project Settings.xml in the project folder and it seems to work better now. There seems to be a lag for about 3 or 4 seconds when I hit play when the sequence rolls it's stuttery for the first 3 to 5 seconds then pops into sync and stays that way. I found if I add filler at head and start with a 5 second preroll it plays solid. I'm on 2018.12.3 which supposedly fixed a memory leak but I still have to quit Avid link after booting computer or it continually grows in memory use according to Activity monitor.
I'm not sure if I've nailed it yet as sometimes in the past testing after playing a few times it gets worse also after a long render it gets worse. I am rerendering more of the sequence now and will see if it still plays solid after the initial 3 to 5 seconds.
It reminds me of the frame bumping of an old ECS-90 or other convergence editors where you adjusted the preroll bumps to minimize over correction during preroll. Of course back then I could see what was going on and now it's all some bit stream under the hood I can't tell what's going on.
It does seem like even though I've rendered an upper track safe color limit there are sections with a V2 submaster of up to 10 layers of clone/paint out effects that I've rendered the submaster effect before rendering the safe color limit and even though Avid only needs to play the one stream of rendered safe color limit render it might be tracking the underlying effect nest. Perhaps that adds to the load and contributes to the hiccupy playback. Just guessing out loud.

At the risk of being obvious, have you tried trashing the MCState?
That always seems to be the last thing I think of,
yet often fixes Avid when it misbehaves.

MarcelI guess I'm going to have to start a new drive and do a simple clean install to see if that plays nice. I tried back revving to 8_9_4 with no improvement. It seems like it's not a performance issue but something in hardware or software that is creating this.
