Subject: [Avid-L2] OT: Teamviewer OS 10.6.8 Incompatible with latest version?

Playing around with TeamViewer and I downloaded the latest version on a MacPro 2010 upgraded to 12 core running os 10.8.5.  Tried to access from my macbookpro circa 2009 OS 10.6.8.  It tells me I need to upgrade to a newer version of Team Viewer to connect with the newly TeamViewer'd computer.

I upgrade and still I get the prompt I need a newer version but the upgrade check tells me I have the latest version.  I googled and it seems the current version requires 10.7 or later.  Okay that's understandable but I then tried to connect from the newly installed teamviewer MacPro back to my laptop and that works.  WTF?  Seems odd I can connect one way but not the other.  Perhaps the OS is the problem but wouldn't it make sense for it not to work at all not just one way.  Hmm.

[Avid-L2] Latest article in Art of the Cut series

This is a followup to my interview with Pietro Scalia about editing "The Martian." THIS article is an interview with the "additional editor" on "The Martian," Cheryl Potter. This is incredibly in depth on both the technical and artistic side. If you ever wondered how a major Hollywood feature was set up in Avid, this is the article you've been waiting to read. Would I lie to you?

[Avid-L2] Is it me? (Some currents bugs)

anyone else seeing these still...
v8.4.2.5 with ISIS - stuttering playback using AVCIntra footage - in a major broadcast house. Came with upgrade to v8 (v6.5 previously). Sometimes audio Mixdown will fix, sometimes not. Looks like bandwidth (or cpu) issue

v5.5 thru v8.4.2.5 - using red segment mode to move a clip with an unremdered speed effect then attempting to undo will cause avid to hang requiring restart of app. Looks like some corruption in the undo queue. Mostly I've trained myself out of this one but catches me once in a while.

v7.0.4 for sure, possibly others - when trying to step into a nest and adjust a CCR I get 'track-8 doesn't exist'. From then on the effect adjustment window will not appear to allow adjustment of any effects until I restart the app.

v6-v8.4.2 - sometimes automation gain will not record key frames.

V8.4.2.5 - been noticing that the audio waveforms are not always an accurate reflection of the audio contained in the track lately - they seem to be a few frames out

On the plus side I am loving stereo tracks, track based audio effects, cached waveforms, multiple mixes etc....

Re: [Avid-L2] Unity Media Net 18 vs. 24 seat dongle?

i believe the limits are 26FC and 20ETH clients.
They have more to do with bandwidth management and supported switches and expansions.

Back in the day, an FC seat added to the dongle was around 800$.

Meanwhile back to the regularly scheduled thread.  Does anybody know if an older medianet 5 unity dongle can be upgraded to add more seats?  I don't know if Avid is still offering that given they have moved on to newer storage platforms with Isis etc....

What is the max number of seats for a medianet 5.  From a previous thread I had a while back I see ethernet clients are limited to 20 and it said fibre clients up to 36.  Is it possible then to have a combination of both and have 56 clients?  I'd bet that would become sluggish but that's just me guessing.

Also I would assume it would be possible to upgrade a Unity MediaNet5 dongle for more seats can someone confirm that.  Given it's EOL I don't know if Avid still sells unity dongle upgrades.

Re: [Avid-L2] Unity Media Net 18 vs. 24 seat dongle?

We already have 3 media array chassis that were originally going to be added to one or both of our existing medianet 5s.  Do to production overlaps they need to use the media arrays combined with another medianet 5 engine for a 3rd separate unity setup as the existing ones will still be full and in use.
