Re: [Avid-L2] Avid Universal Mastering is only back with new Hardware

Dave,

How is the Teranex tech being used? The traditional Symphony Universal Mastering was just adding Frames/Fields to go from 24 to 25 or 30 and 25 to 30. Using Teranex tech should allow us to do real time adaptive pulldown removal, and intelligent field blending to go from 30 to 25 or 24 and 25 to 24. Is that now an option or is the "Teranex Tech" just adding fields and frames like the old system?

When I went to the Avid booth at NAB I thought there was a smudge on the DNxIO logo because it looked like DNxIQ.  Well when I asked it is a new version that handles Thunderbolt 3 and PCIe version 3,  not sure what the the proper for the new PCIe is but it's a version 3.  Along with this new connectivity there is the ability to do universal mastering.  Great news except I already own a DNxIO and my understanding is that unit won't do the universal mastering.  In the words of a favorite producer of mine, "F me skipping!!!

Nice to see the feature that was removed come back at an additional charge for new hardware.  Kinda like buying a new license for script sync.  Oh well nice to see the feature is back but it's not going to make me buy a new box.  Hard to believe this feature can't work with the existing DNxIO hardware.  Typical of Avid to wait long enough to bring back a feature that is almost obsolete due to file based delivery.  I realize it still has value but not like it would have three years ago when the DNxIO came out.

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

Re: [Avid-L2] Avid Universal Mastering is only back with new Hardware

Thanks for the info as to why.  Just seems odd given a NitrsDX handled the task and it didn't have Teranex technology.  Something as simple as adding pulldown can be handled in a time warp so it would seem that could be handled by Avid without the need for Teranex code.  I realize once Avid opened up to 3rd party IO there were compromises in the implementation of the 3rd party hardware but now that Avid is branding the DNxIO and IQ as Avid hardware it feels remiss to drop a core feature of Avid Media Composer Symphony workflows and then require the user to buy a new piece of hardware to get it back.

Re: [Avid-L2] Fw: Avid Universal Mastering is only back with new Hardware

Even without tape there are some who play out from one system to another to get hardware legalization and the ability to scope things in baseband as a file is made.  I do get the joke sad as it is.  If only I could find the tracking control on my .mov to fix the video.

Re: [Avid-L2] BCC and Saphire Upgrade NAB deal till May 1st.

That is my understanding.  I was told that the BCC plugin will eventually become more like the Sapphire plugin has with more of an annual fee to stay current.  I know with Sapphire I now pay once a year to stay current but if I stop I just stay at the version I'm at.  In Avid speak that would be a perpetual license with a support contract.  Sapphire has a similar model and I'm told by my post supervisor Sapphire no longer offers monthly licenses.  Not sure why they stopped that but perhaps my post sup was misinformed on that.

Bottom line is not to get stranded jump on it by May 1st.  Ping me offlist if you need a contact person and I'll give you the person I spoke with.  She said she'd be back in the office Monday.

Boris has a 20 percent of deal for NAB which isn't really news but a nice price break.  The one thing that was pointed out to me was I could upgrade from my BCC 8 licenses to BCC10 and because they have announced BCC11 I would get that.  After May 1st the upgrade path will only go one version back.  So if you are like me still at BCC8 you might want to consider contacting Boris by May 1st so you don't get stranded.  The Mocha Tracker is worth the upgrade price.

I asked what would happen with BCC8 tracking info that is pre Mocha and I was told that BCC10 would be able to take a tracked effect from BCC8 and interpret it correctly.  Given the new mocha tracker replaces the old style of BCC tracking this was an important concern I had.
