If I'm following correctly it sounds like some of you have created batch scripts that will create a bin template for Avid projects. I've always manually recreated bins from the previous project in a series so I don't get any conflicts when opening bins from multiple episodes in a series. Are these scripts being run to populate an already created avid project folder? I've always thought that there is some special sauceunder the hood for Avid project folders and it wasn't just matching the folder naming conventions of the avid project structure. With bins if you copy them even if you rename them the original bin and the copied and renamed bin will have conflicts if opened at the same time in my experience. Just curious at what stage are the scripts invoked?

My concern is if there would be any levl shift if I toggle my Avid YUV Rec 709 project to an Avid 444 project. Switching from 8 bit to 10 bit in the timeline quality causes a bit of a shift to the video that may only be noticeable on a scope but it happens. I've been told it's some flaw in the math Avid uses under the hood. So I was curious if any similar anomalies would happen going from a 422 project to a 444 project.

Changing to 4444 should not cause a gamma shift. Levels are still video levels. So changing the project and export settings should create the proper 4444 file.

I don't get it.

YUV rec 709 is possible with any codec, not?

Then, there never was a gamma shift in the files, but there was an issue with wrong flagging so players would playback wrong.

QTchange can fix that nowadays.

I've tried Post Haste in the past, I just downloaded it again to give it another go and remembered why I opted for a .bat file instead.

With Post Haste, it seems that you can't store your template on a networked drive or share, which is a deal breaker for me.

Another aspect of my batch script (I didn't include the full code in my original post to protect my client) is that it also creates directories on other networked drives. So, in addition to creating the basic project structure on the shared storage, it also puts a "Final Deliverables" folder on a network share that the producers can access from anywhere on their company laptop. Post Haste seems only to build your template in one location. Meaning, the editor would have to remember to create the final deliverables folder separately and may not input the project number/name correctly or in the right format.

I'm still open to any other ideas.

I don't have the kind of experience you need for scripting, but have you looked at PostHaste? I use this all the time for project template propagation and at least for my needs, works great. You may have already gone down this road, but if not, worth looking at.

The long and short of it is that I've written a simple batch script to create a project folder template:

Great suggestions from Jo and Mark. Thank you. My phone behaved
perfect for a full day after I posted on the L. You guys probably
scared it. This morning at the gym it went nuts again. Jo's suggestion
sounds reasonable and promising. I thought about doing it but then I
remembered the last time I tried something similar and wound up spending
over an hour on my landline phone with a very wonderful Apple support
person who needed to use both my laptop and my wife's iPhone to perform
various functions to get my iPhone back. So, I think I'll just wimp out
and buy a new phone.

Here's another iPhone oddity for your amusement. I usually use the
Apple music app in its "shuffle" mode at the gym. It's set to just
access music I have stored on my phone, which includes some iTunes and
other downloads and a bunch of vinyl and CDs that I've transferred. For
the last few weeks, ever since the blow up over the country music
singer who released a possibly racist video about his comparison between
mythical small town life and big city life... Anyway, every morning
since that hit the news my phone as played Guy Clark's "LA Freeway"
every single morning. I like Guy Clark and I don't particularly mind
hearing that song every day but it has me wondering if Apple is using my
music library to make a statement.

The mail thing might be related to iOS' feature for Undo Send. When you send an email in the Mail app, it goes into a bit of purgatory and the bottom portion of the screen changes to a temporary "Undo Send" for a few seconds. So it's just delaying sending your message until the Undo period is over, and then it goes. Threw me a bit when that started.

For the rest: it may just be time for a new phone. The SE was good, but the current architecture is better. I missed the home button for a few days, but the bottom-up swipe to get back to the home screen is intuitive and easy to switch to. It helps that so many of the iPhone swipe gestures are easy to remember and acquire into sense-memory.

having a slightly larger screen. Any advice? Will I get used to not
having a "home" button if I go to a different phone? Is there any way
to create some sort of a software home button on a newer iPhone? Is it
worth trying to fix the problems with my current phone??? Many Thanks.

[Avid-L2] OT: Way Off Topic iPhone Question

I know this is way off topic but there are a lot of really smart users
of Apple products on the L so I'm hoping to get some advice. My 2 year
old iPhone SE is starting to act very goofy. Aside from the battery
life starting to diminish, it's developed three annoying problems.
Other than these, I pretty much like the phone.

1) It randomly destroys outgoing emails. I will tap out and send an
email (reply or new), hit send and think it has been sent. The mail
simply disappears. It is not in the "sent" or any other folder, just
gone. I can verify that a message has been sent by looking for it in
the "sent" folder but this problem has resulted in a few embarrassing
situations.

2) The music player will randomly stop, then restart. Sometimes it will
go back to the beginning of the tune it was playing, sometimes it will
