Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Favorite / Best USB 3 thumb drives

Depends,

If it's going to set where stuff get's lost easily I get the larger

If it's going into a server or computer for a long time and I don't want anyone bumping into it I get something low profile

If it's for me to use on my laptop I get the above low profile or the slightly larger

Re: [Avid-L2] Favorite / Best USB 3 thumb drives

Take a look at this chart.

It's a good start.. My experience is that if the manufacturer does not give you speed specs, it's not fast enough. ;-) You pay for speed. Cheap USBs are not fast. For low volume work, most brand name USB 3 thumb drives are fast enough.

If you need fast, SSDs, though slightly less convenient, are the best investment. Much faster and bigger. Small enough to carry around, but big enough so you don't lose them..

I've been buying Samsung T5s. $100 for 500GB @400MBps

The 500 gig ones are dirt cheap. (Around friends here there are at least some 20 circling around varying from 500gig to 4TB..)

I do have on SSD with an adapter, but it seems that the USB3 connection is not spectaculair faster than  the spinning drive speeds, so it's a bit overkill I would think.

Another option would be to use memory cards, but again, they are not really faster, just more expensive and easier to loose.
