[Avid-L2] Re: Ghosting

"Avids blending framerate conversion produces that ghosting affect."

I think this is what I was inarticulately alluding to calling it the "splooge effect."  Hence my suggestion to adjust the motion adapter after transcoding or importing the clip into a project  with a matching frame rate and motion type.  I think the default is for Avid to blend interpolate and promoting the motion adapter should allow you to change that.  IIRC often times the motion type is greyed out until the motion adapter is promted.

Or try fluid motion speed change.
Or convert them via alchemist externally.

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

I was suggesting trying the first option, if that wasnt clear.  The speed difference is quite small and the result is perfect.  Of course you have to deal with the implications of possibly adjusting your edits and sound, if any.

Fluid motion often results in freaky funhouse artifacts, in my experience.

Re: [Avid-L2] Ghosting

I haven't played much with this.  I know they have options in transcoding to project frame rate of maintain source frame rate.  I always try to play it safe and transcode in a project matching the source's frame rate.  Then I will play with motion adapter as needed.  Was the source 25I or 25P.  In the motion adapter settings you can play with source interlace or progressive and output interlace or progressive.  If the final is 23.976 the output should be progressive but play around a lot of times the ghosting is interlace fields being splooged together into a progressive frame.  There may be a better term like split fields or blended fields but I like splooged as it seems to make me feel better the more I say it.

Perhaps a google for a De-Splooger is in order.  I'm just waiting for Uber Eats to start delivering OKI Dogs on a Friday night.  ;-)

On recent versions of MC you can conform the frame rate in Source Settings.

Hi

Just got back a QC report on a 4K 23.98 doc project.  They are calling out some ghosting in clips.  As I check it seems these were clips shot at 25fps. They are either AMA or were imported at their original frame rate. I have played with transcoding and with source settings but seems to do little.  Would anyone know of a way to get rid of this or is this just something we have to live with?

Thanks
Lou
