[Avid-L2] Re: Project and media not reading off ext Hard drive

I've had issues with some ext enclosures when using 4TB drives on macs and using FW 800. Even the relatively expensive HDX enclosure I have will mount a 4TB drive fine with ESata but not with FW 800. Other enclosures or docks I've tried don't have this problem so my guess it has something to do with the chipset. You say the 3TB boots up ok on the mac so I doubt that is the problem but just thought I'd share my experience with 4TB drives and external enclosures on Macs. Even the raw drive 4TB was seen as a much smaller size according to disk info. I use paragon on my mbp for ntfs drives and it works well but I tend to run mac Avids with mac formatted drives HFS+. How does a Terrablock perform with NTFS drive volumes on a Mac Avid? Do you have to run paragon or it's equivalent on the Mac Avids?

Actually in curves I add points with the wacom tablet but then I click on the number fields and us the cursor arrows to the point up or down. Sometimes I'll drag the points with the pen to get close but I find once close the arrow up and down move the points more precisely.

[Avid-L2] DVD Workflow

Hello to all,

I was hoping to find out what you all really like as far as work flow of finishing a DVD.

I know multiple ways to produce a standard def. DVD and Blue Ray but haven't been to happy with the look of my standard def DVD's.

The way that I have been doing it is exporting a quicktime movie, then squeezing it in sorenson squeeze, then finalizing it with encore.

I've tried staying with Avid with send to DVD.

Also tried transcoding with Media Encoder.

Haven't been thrilled with any of these. They all work and I understand there are tons of settings in all of these to improve quality but was hoping to see what every one else does.

I this case I wonder if the 3TB isn't part of the problem.

Re: [Avid-L2] Project and media not reading off ext Hard drive

I have had similar problems with MacDrive. There's no problem moving
files on the desktop, but from within Media Composer, it sometimes
doesn't like writing to the databases, which makes keeping the Avid
MediaFiles on those drives difficult.

Nick, I've never had success using MacDrive for anything other than
simple file transfers. I think you'd have much less pain if you use a
NTFS drive on your Windows editing system and when you're done editing,
copy the files to the other editor's Mac formatted drive. --J.B.

[Avid-L2] Project and media not reading off ext Hard drive

OK Here is a weird one!
I am doing a project that I need to share with another editor in another location. I'm working on MC6.5 on PC and using the clients Mac formatted Lacie 3Tb drive connected through eSata and MacDrive to my PC running Windows 7.

All seems to be running fine. The media is all AMA'd and the project is saved to the 3Tb drive. At the end of the session I transcode all the media from the edits onto the 3Tb drive, backup my project to the C Drive and send the 3Tb drive off to the other editor.

Then the trouble starts! He is running MC 6.0.3 on a Mac. The 3Tb drive boots up OK but the Avid project won't open. I email him my backed up copy of the project and that opens fine but none of the media is linked and the Mac isn't seeing the Media on the 3Tb. Ok, trash the databases and rebuild except Avid then wants to quarantine all of the MXF mediafiles.

Client brings drive back to me on PC 6.5. I now can't open project saved on 3Tb drive either. Open backup project OK - rebuild databases - a couple of audio files are quarantined but otherwise it's all OK.

Now I reconsolidate all media off 3Tb drive on to another 500Gb USB drive and copy Project.

Back to other editor and this works fine! What the heck!!! Anyone got any ideas about what was going on there? I verified the 3Tb drive on my Mac laptop and it said it was perfect, but I can only think that there was some weird Mac/PC file structure mismatch thing going on which I have never come across before.

Re: [Avid-L2] Color Corrector Feature Request

Since Baselight is a plugin it should work with any Avid supported hardware. A decent GPU would be nice.

More info:

If this link asks for a password, just hit cancel a couple of times.

I've hit that before also. Here is the manual uninstall notes:

Also there is a tech note that having Dropbox installed can cause this issue.

[Avid-L2] Re: Color Corrector Feature Request

John,
No sarcasm filter needed.
The fact is he grades with just a keyboard.
Actually the mouse comes into play for masks and stuff.
And he actually does ask facilities to remove the control surface.
So you (and me) are in good company when we type numbers into the curves tabs.
