Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Install MC on a new partition, same computer

Does the confusion not stem from the fact that the DS trial version uses
project limitations?

RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Install MC on a new partition, same computer

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. For this to happen Avid would have to had changed the project format for a trial license because the application wouldn't be able to retroactively go back and change all the project files so that a fully licensed MC would not be able to open the projects.

I'm pretty sure that we don't have different project formats but I'll poke around on Monday and see if I can find anything out.

That could also be permissions issues or a bug or client fubar.

Check the error reports and the console and let us know what you see.

And as long as we're dreaming about search features:
How about a search box in the Project window to search for meta data
like clip names, tape names, comments, etc. across all bins (even
whether closed or open)....

Great idea, Ben.
Post it on the Feature Request forum at the Avid Community Forums.
Could also be nice to create a custom effects tab in the Pallette (I do know

Chris,

My setup here at home has gone from 3.5 to 4.0 to 4.0.2 to 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 to
4.0.5 and it appears to be right there.

I don't believe it is a separate install.

What happens if you reinstall? And if you do, why not switch to 4.0.5 while
you're at it?

Rgds,
Job.

best I saw at CES. The have also produced this video http://bit.ly/7Pw3Mx

Rodney Charters the DP on "24" goes live to the set of 24 on his
iPhone on a regular basis. You should be vwery vwery afraid at whats

Great idea, Ben.
Post it on the Feature Request forum at the Avid Community Forums.
Could also be nice to create a custom effects tab in the Pallette (I do know
about bins with effects showing up there, but it would be nice to have it as
part of my user settings).

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Ummm. Fluid morph?

Odd. Illusion fx does not show up as a category anymore in the 3.0 systems we upgraded to 4.0.2. These are pc seats.

Is it a separate or secret install?

Anyone know of installer issues?

With the list of effects having grown over the years,
It'd be great for the Effects Palette to have a search feature for

[Avid-L2] [OT] More Haiti

Found out today that about half of the people featured in a documentary
I produced about mission efforts in Haiti are alive and well. Our
"Fixer" was out of the country visiting relatives in Orlando when the
quake hit. He has not been able to find out anything about his family
or his home, which is in Bois Caradeaux near Delmas in Port au Prince.
That's one of the worst hit areas.

While we fuss about Avid, missing media files, and marketing - remember
what really matters. Pray - and get out your wallet.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Green Bar At Bottom Of Timeline On Symphony

Hi terry,
Nah, it wasn't under a video layer... It was right at the bottom of
the timeline, with it's own 'p' label! Turns out, like I mentioned
earlier, it's the 'performance ribbon.' I don't think it's mentioned
anywhere in the user guides.

Best,
CP

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Install MC on a new partition, same computer

Can't believe it.

Are you sure that's not referring to the training version of DS?
Projects created or even opened there become incompatible with the
full version.

Also a dumb idea, but at least avid states this in big red letters.

You could put it on a layer above - one subclip about multiple clips.

I know you can lasso a group of clips and double click an effect and
it drops on each clip. But how do I do the same if I want to drop
another clip on all. For instance a color cc fx. I don't want them
all under one effect which is what happens when I hold the option
key. Of course if I don't hold down a key the second effect replaces
the first.
Possible?

Think it has to do with people deleting the hidden Date file (30 day limit)
and continuing a new 30 day limit endlessly. Makes sense.

RE: [Avid-L2] Re: BD recorders?

QuickTime reference doesn't work with Long GOP so anything from the newer
HDV and Sony EX cameras requires a transcode. BTW, there is a bug with
Sonic that has been very tough to pin down.

If your on an Avid and have the bundled pack you will have the Sonic DVD
software (DVDit HD) this allows output from the avid via QT ref to the
software to create Blu-ray or SD DVD projects. Just add a Blu-ray burner and
off you go.
At least you can burn multiple copies and with or without menus plus add
extra audio tracks if needed.
The cost of the blank BD-R disks makes a standalone burning an expensive
item for real time burns.
With an authoring step and controlled burns you can use BD-RE (re-writable)
to test if need be.

Also the Blu-ray burner in the PC makes a very nice media backup solution at
50GB per DL disk. Not masses but that's a lot of DVD-Rs

wat? I'm having a difficult time believing that - unless it's just
some heinous programming error.

I can't believe that would be done intentionally.
