[Avid-L2] Avid Symphony crossgrades are still available

The Avid Symphony Crossgrade promotion expired on June 15th but it is still
available from Videoguys.com while supplies last!!
http://www.webvideoguys.com/symp6ups-stu.html

The Avid Symphony Crossgrade promotion expired on June 15th. We sold so many
units during the last week  of the promotion that we not only sold out of
our own inventory, we cleaned out Avid as well. We anticipated the big rush
at the end, and we placed orders for more upgrades in early June, but
unfortunately Avid ran into production delays. The good news is that Avid is
getting us more Symphony 6 Crossgrades this week and, because of the
shipping delays, Videoguys will be able to offer the special promotional
price! As long as we have inventory available, we will continue to offer FCP
and Avid editors the chance to either crossgrade or upgrade to Avid Symphony
6 for just $995! We will also continue to include two Class On Demand online
training courses with your purchase!

You can also still take advantage of our fantastic bundles with Avid Mojo
DX, Nitris DX, Artist Color; Matrox MX02 Mini MAX, LE MAX & Mojito MAX; and
AJA Kona LHI, Kona 3G & Io XT. Follow this link for our Avid bundle page

Re: [Avid-L2] Shared storage rental NYC

You should try Pivotal Post. They have an office in NYC. But maybe call Pivotal here in LA to set it up.

[Avid-L2] Re: choppy playback

I thought Raid 5 and others are supposed to let you keep working when a drive goes bad, at least that's the theory. Perhaps the nature of the drive error is causing a repeated request that is taxing the system enough to cause the playback issue? What if you take a short section that is studdering and consolidate that to the internal drive, assuming that is fast enough. I've run dnx 220 off a single internal drive on a Mac Pro. If it's a fresh consolidate the consolidated media shouldn't be too fragmented so I'd expect it to playback okay. If it still studders from the internal drive take your external raids offline and see if that makes a difference.

Check out http://www.blackmagic-design.com/

They've got USB 3.0 options. You've got the Ultrastudio SDI for
capture/playback and the Pocket ultrascope for your ultrascopes.

[Avid-L2] Playback is choppy

This is a new one for me. MC 5.5/ Mac 10.6.7. Playback of any HD material has always been smooth on my 8bay Caldigit and 4 bay OWC raid. But as of yesterday, video playback is choppy and almost impossible to work with. I am using 720p/23.97. If I shift format in project to 1080 it still is choppy. If I drop resolution on playback, still choppy. I went back to a part of this doc I cut a few months back and playback was choppy so I know its not the new material. I powered down the MOJO DX and restarted computer, but no good.

Is this possible a Mojo issue, could there be another hardware problem in the video card or Avid card? Ram? Have not seen it so not sure how to trouble shoot. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

[Avid-L2] Symphony 6 on laptop - hardware options

So I couldn't resist the upgrade and I bought Symphony v6. I'm looking at a new computer to run it, and I've pretty much decided on the HP Elitebook 8760w. I don't think I'll be doing a lot of tape ingest or output, but I still want to be able to have external scopes and monitoring. What would be the best (and most economical) hardware options for me?

Any thoughts appreciated.

[Avid-L2] timeline scrolling (was Re: Symph upgrade came!) Now Artist Panels connection?

From what I've seen with my Artist Color panel I believe the transport panels also use the Eucon interface to connect. I've had very so so connection stability running tests on V6 with the panel hooked to a switch that the MacPro is hooked to. Both ethernet ports are used on the MacPro. One to hook to an older unity using connection manager 5.2 and the other hooks to the facility network. I haven't tried all the configurations that I've seen with the second ethernet port because of the current infrastructure. It does however connect to multiple computers hooked to the switch. Both my MBP and the Mac Pro can connect but it has a tendency to lose the connection while working quite often in my tests. Are the transport panels more stable with these connections over a network. If it is an absolute requirement that the panel hook directly to the computer to stay connected that is not how the software seems to be intended and it should be fixed. It's bad enough that the "granularity" of the controls is not precise enough when dialing in parameters but to also lose connection is just rubbing my "trying to be hopeful" nose in it
