[Avid-L2] Re: AVID MC6

Hi all, there's no need to open multiple projects in Avid as one can access bins belonging to any project from the current project. As a side note, it is my understanding that the FCP days are over, a thing of the past, while this discussion started off on MC 6, which is the future...

[Avid-L2] Re: firewire deck control??

I used to have one of those decks in the Meridien days, it was MC 10 if I recall, and it wouldn't work over the firewire: serial only; at the time I was told by Avid support that it was a VCR known to be "incompatible" with Avid, I got rid of it and bought a 1500 when they first came out, so I don't know how it works with more recent Avid releases.

[Avid-L2] Re: 56TB of XDCam Virtual volumes AMA reliability?

My fear is how to figure out which volumes that need to be mounted because they will be in various parent folders etc... And footage comes from all over the span of the shoot for any given episode. Even if it was just one day that's 216 ama virtual volumes to mount which I understand could all be in one parent folder and linking to the parent will link to the sub folders of virtual volumes. Are 216 ama volumes mounted at once be stable? Ultimately once ama'd we'd transcode for online but having to wade through all the virtual volumes to mount seem potentially problematic. At minimum there be around 500 virtual volumes to mount for an episode. Doing the transcode seems very tidious compared to a tape based workflow.

The big concern I have is thinking my symphony or any of the other mcsofts is going to be able to reliably relink to the XDCam virtual volumes when the number will be over 4,500. Having to open that many ama linked bins seems very risky. As I previously posted I did suggest the consolidate approach but was told no for the reasons I already mentioned.

Two years? OK, bummer. I made the comment based on the 2005 release of
the first LHe cards.

product on their website that will not work with MC6. :(

RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Kona LHe - NG

Not LHi, or LH/e Plus - I tested an old LH/e

When did you buy that card? I've had a few- and I've never paid more
than a grand... pretty sure. And, like I said, it still works great
with final cut pro. So... you just can't use it with Media Composer.

Great! Thanks AJA for EOLing my $1500 card

Sure, go ahead... read the directions. Not me, man, I'm just slappin'
that card into a computer! ;-)

Needless to say, the card I tested is a very old LH/e - and I'm in no
way official. No way. I'm not sure I even qualify as "Ad Hoc." I
think I'm more... 'I heard it from this guy I know...'

Note that the LHe Plus is listed as supported. Supported cards listed
in the press release:

"The current family of KONA cards, KONA 3G, KONA 3, KONA LHi and KONA
LHe Plus."

All of that paragraph from the press release:

"The current family of KONA cards, KONA 3G, KONA 3, KONA LHi and KONA
LHe Plus, will all support Avid Media Composer 6.0, NewsCutter 10.0
and Symphony 6.0 with the addition of Avid Open I/O enabling support
for third-party audio and video interfaces. AJA's Io Express portable
video I/O device already supports Avid Media Composer and NewsCutter,
offering HD/SD capture, monitoring and output; AJA's recently
announced Io XT will offer a similar feature set for Thunderbolt-
enabled workflows."

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Kona LHe - NG

When did you buy the card?

Does it still work with the software you bought to run with?

Did you get $1500 worth of use out of it?

Ya, it's a drag but technology marches on...

Jim "wanna buy a Kona 2?" Feeley
