Re: [Avid-L2] OT: Is there a way to remove duplicate frames in After Effect or Avid using Motion editor for 2:2:2:4 Footage?

[Edited Message Follows]

For some reason the material was 1:1:1:1:2.  I looked up some After Effects script to remove duplicate frames but that is beyond my novice After Effects world.  I ended up manually removing the duplicate frames by splitting layers in After Effects and bumping the new layer back a frame.  The clip was only 38 seconds so even though it was tedious it seemed the easiest solution.  That then came into Avid seamless with no duplicate frames and I promoted the motion adapter to adjust to 100% to get frame for frame playback, no sync was involved otherwise I'd approach it differently.  This is colorized old public domain footage so I have no idea the food chain involved but it was every 5th frame that was duplicated.  Occasionally at shot changes the cadence seemed to drift but perhaps the 30 fps played into the drift.  That's amazing that ffmpeg has duplicate frame detection.  That's  a realm of processing I've never dealt with.

[Avid-L2] Stacking BCC Title Studio?

Working on end credits that are pages.  I wanted to match the top banner line of two pages where the banner line is "Still Provided by."  One of the pages has one less line so the auto center makes the banner line jump.  I added a dummy blank line to the shorter page but there was still a slight jump in the banner line, I assume descenders factor in.  I figured I could stack the pages in the timeline and open the BCC title studio interface and see the stack so I could adjust vertical position more efficiently while in the BCC interface.  For some reason the BCC interface doesn't show the BCC title studio effect on the layer below even though I have title studio to composite over video.  I tried rendering the lower layer title studio but still didn't work.  I finally did a video mixdown of the lower layer and that worked.

I can understand the effect nature of title studio factoring into the Title Studio interface not showing the title studio effect in a lower layer but I would think after the lower layer title studio is rendered it should act like the video mixdown but that doesn't seem to be the case.  It's almost like there is a "render in place" thing not happening.  I'm on Mojave with Avid 2018.12.15.

Is there some magic setting other than composite over video in BCC Title Studio that I'm missing?

I never had this issue with Title Tool!  ;-)

If it's P, that should be 1:1:1:2

I transcoded to DNxHR HQX in a 30P Avid project.  I'm cutting the footage into a 23.976 UHD timeline and then using the motion adapter promoted to set it to 100%

First, this ancient technology. (Be happy, now it's easy to remove the pulldown.)
But if this is the case, are you sure the cadence is not broken? (In that case you should break it up in separate shots, Resolve has very good scene detection  nowadays.)

I'd really like to just take the original file and remove the duplicate progressive frame that happens every 5th frame.  Any suggestions?

The duplicate happens every 4th frame of the SOURCE. So if you remove the pulldown, a frame is cut after 4 frames of what is in your timeline.

FFmpeg can do this, it's very easy, the most quick and dirty way of going from 30 to 24 is just to cut out frames.

BUT, Avid does it quick and dirty also. Only problem is, you need to start on the 'right' frame. Cutting out a frame in the timeline does NOT affect the start of the pulldown remove.
So the first duplicate frame should be the fifth frame.
And, it ONLY works if the math is allright. Going from 30 to 23,976 will get out of the cadence quite fast.

If the cadence is indeed broken, you could run a FFmpeg script that will kick out frames that are too much alike. (But that will kill you on static shots…)

[Avid-L2] OT: Is there a way to remove duplicate frames in After Effect or Avid using Motion editor for 2:2:2:4 Footage?

I've got some 30 Frame progressive footage that is 2:2:2:4 cadence.  I transcoded to DNxHR HQX in a 30P Avid project.  I'm cutting the footage into a 23.976 UHD timeline and then using the motion adapter promoted to set it to 100% so I get a frame for frame playback but the 2:2:2:4 cadence becomes more prominent given it playing 25% slower.  I played with the progressive repeat settings in the motion effects editor but I don't seem to achieving the pulldown removal I want.  I've tried to use after effects playing around with interpret footage but that only seems to deal with 2:3 or advanced pulldown.  I found a script thing that becomes an after effects effect for duplicate frame removal but I'm not versed in AE.  Am I missing something in how Avid deals with 2:2:2:4 footage in the motion effects editor?  I had never noticed the option of repeat frame in the pull down menus ot the motion effects editor before, but then I never looked for them before.

I'd really like to just take the original file and remove the duplicate progressive frame that happens every 5th frame.  Any suggestions?
