[Avid-L2] Re: Avid Airspeed

Yeah thats kinda what I figured. Well it looks like im SOL because that Original One is no longer available from Avid. The Interplay one I have LOOKS similar but it wont connect without the dongle, so no dice there either. So I just have a very nice paper weight. I suppose I could play out into my Adrenaline and then capture from there into my Avid

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

Original Transfer Manager is different from Interplay TM.

This was a traditional workflow, and configurable via Airspeed UI and editor settings.... and patience. It can manage record of SD-formatted media (NTSC DV25/50, IMX30/50, PALDV25 422/420, IMX30/50, etc) and DNx HD when used with a DNxchange device. It also allows for two playout channels and basic OSD monitoring."

Im thinking he Transfer Manger the are referring to must be different than the "Inerplay TM" that I am using, because it just crashes my Avid every time I install it.

Is it possible that these older Airspeed Classics just dont have the TM software on them...or perhaps the tmclient.ini file need some additions manually put in there?

so a SLIGHT bit of progress. When using the Avid FTP Media Browser, I WAS able to get the green connected status...HOWEVER, no clips are showing up because I dont know the file path on the server where the are located. This is also one way I think, it looks like the method to get files from the Airspeed into he Avid. But still no look with the TMClient

Yes I can ping that, I dont have the "transfer manager window" per se. Since Raj mentioned that all I need is the TM client, thats all I installed. When I install the Transfer Engine, it wants the dongle and it kills my Avid. It looks like its looking for extra parameters that you might see wih the TE. All I see with options with the client is Server and workgroup. The transer Mode on the the Airspeed is set to Stand Alone...so its not trying to connect to a Unity or ISIS and my network light is green. Also as I said I am able to FTP clips via telnet so its definitely listening, bu Im not sure what the Avid is trying to do behind the scenes

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Avid Airspeed

Can you ping "asplay-2"? As in, if you open command prompt and enter "ping asplay-2", do you get a response or an error? If ping gives you an error, you probably need to add "asplay-2" to your hosts file (or DNS server, if you have one).
If ping is getting a response, is anything happening in the transfer manager window when you try to connect? You should see a few lines of text appear whenever a client connects to the server.

I tried the Transfer Tab in the ribbon "connect to server" and to no avail. I still seems like this requires a workroup, but AVid said i can work in a standalone without a Unity or Isis

Okay I installed 64 bit version of the client and I got the Transfer Settings to show up in the Avid. It just asks for a server and a workgroup (not sure what the workgroup should be so I made one up) it seemed to take my settings, but not sure what else to check. Where do I go from here? Reading through stuff but Avid has 100 manuals for the same thing

hmm...strange. I installed the Transfer Client and all it did was install Inerplay FTP Cliplist and Interplay FTP MEdia Browser and he ASM manager. None of those load because it says they are missing some .dlls, bu I dont see anything in the Avid relating to the Transfer Client and I see no settings for it either. I see lots of configuration stuff ouside The Avid when I install Transfer Engine, but as stated that breaks my Avid.

Re: [Avid-L2] When does Avid go into 10 bit mode in 4K renders?

I think you're responding to me, Bouke.

I ran into this in 8.4.x on Mac.  Using a 10-bit codec for the mixdown, of course it was technically 10-bit, but values were internally truncated to 8-bit unless timeline was in green-10bit mode.  IIRC, source footage was AMA-linked, and mixdown was to some flavour of DNxHR, in 4K.

Cheers,

That does not make sense. (And does not happen here, Windows MC 8.6.1)
AFAIK, any portion in the correct mixdown codec will be copied rather than transcoded.
You should see HUGE speed differences between modes. Is that the case?

Hi John:

On 2016-08-28 7:22 AM, bigfish@pacbell.net [Avid-L2] wrote:
I've recently been told by a fellow online editor that he had seen Avid take his 10 bit material and on certain exports to ProRes his export was only 8 bit.  If he did an internal Avid mixdown to ProRes first then exported same as source he said that had resolved his 8 bit problem. Now given my new awareness that all ProRes is at least 10 bit I don't see how this editor was getting 8 bit on his exported file.  I assume he was using a custom export to turn avid dnx media to ProRes in the case where he felt the export was 8 bit but I don't know for sure.
I believe the only way to get 10-bit out of Avid is by same-as-source export or via still image sequences that are 10-bit capable -- ie. 16-bit TIFF, and now, presumably, DPX.  This was discussed at some length on the list a few years ago, and Avid engineering confirmed it at that time.

Something to be aware of, along the lines of your original question.  While the timeline quality setting (yellow/green etc.) shouldn't affect render quality, it definitely does affect mixdown quality.  If your timeline is not in 10-bit mode, any mixdowns will be strictly 8-bit -- or at least this was the case when I tested it on 8.4.x.

The Airspeed has the transfer sfw, all of it and doesnt need it. You need transfer client and you need to configure it. The tclient should be compatible with your mc version.
