Re: [Avid-L2] Uprez for Delivery

If the short has to be shot ask the camera people to feed TC to the sound recorder, sync will be a snap then.

Re: [Avid-L2] Uprez for Delivery

Thankfully this is a short narrative film, single camera.
Can't thank you guys enough for chiming in,
this sounds pretty solid.

Now to find a basic best practices tutorial on autosyncing clips in MC. I know Resolve will create a sequence based on all synced clips on a camera card.
Looking to see if there is a similar function in MC.

Re: [Avid-L2] Uprez for Delivery

Late or not, your input is much appreciated!

Now once I set up a decent workflow for syncing the audio,
I am golden.

Thx John.

Re: [Avid-L2] Uprez for Delivery

I just learned the short I have taken on will be shot with external audio source.
I have been fortunate enough to work mostly with audio fed into the camera.
Having no AE, I will be faced with syncing up myself.

What's best practice, here?
Create a sequence for each good take and syncing that way?
Then of course cutting that sequence into the timeline.

Or doing the syncing in the actual timeline of the cut?

I am guessing the former to make the most sense.
I worked with this years ago as an AE, but we were blessed to have a PA
sync all for us.

Whatever the method, it just needs to not mess with uprezzing, in the end.

Thanks to Roger and Jo for the assist thus far!

Re: [Avid-L2] Uprez for Delivery

Chip,

you can only switch the project settings in the same frame rate family - but into different resolutions. I.e. starting UHDp59.94 going to 1080p29.97 and back to UHDp59.94 is fine - though you cannot go from 1080p29.97 to 1080i29.97…

If you create a new project (blank) and then go to the project settings Avid will show you your ways of switching the project. I'm not too familiar with 29.97 /23.98 to make a statement on that – my best guess is: create a project, open it and then check the offered possibilities.

(this from 25fps world.)

Cheers!

I'll be linking to cam files and transcoding.

I am guessing the AMA links to original files are what I will use to re-encode, to uprez and create the final 4K sequence. Have I got that right? Or is this a process at the sequence level?
