[Avid-L2] Android File Transfer > Re: OT: Team Viewer and other Apps iPhone vs Android?

Hello John.

Android has a somewhat clunky, but handy/easy-to-use free utility for both WIndows and Mac called Android File Transfer.

When you open it, your Android phone should ask a permission if you want DATA to flow to the app to flow to your computer desktop.  Once opened, it will look exactly like the OS hard drive "folder" structure, and you can drag and drop in both directions.  I have created new folders and dropped them into the utility, and have it show on my phone, but out of caution, have ceased that and always create new folders on the phone first, then dragged things I wanted to move tot he phone to take with me after that.

Attached or embedded below is a screen grab; though with Yahoo mail I am unsure if it will show when you open this.

Like you, I sorely miss my BlackBerry keyboard and software.

Best,
-keoni.

Oh well it might be time for a new phone.  I'm a Mac household with everybody on iPhones but me.  I hate touch screens, which is why I still have the blackberry with it's actual keyboard.  I realize a new phone is long overdue but I'm curious I know Team Viewer works on iPhone and I assume Android.  Is there any compelling reason to avoid the iPhone when it comes to apps that I might use like Team Viewer?

I have been able to run blackberry software on my macs to backup the current phone but what is it like interfacing the Android phones to a mac?  I don't pay much attention to this stuff so is it even correct to view the choice between an iPhone and an Android or is there a new bread of cat on what I consider the PC side of cell phones.  Is a Galaxy etc... still considered an Android?

Some day I might even buy a real lighter so I can stop rubbing sticks together to make fire.  ;-)

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

[Avid-L2] No TC in batch export

Client system: Windows 7, Media Composer 8.4.x

Batch exports to local drives contain timecode information in the file.  But export them to a network drive and only the first file contains TC.

Any one run across this before?

[Avid-L2] Audio EDL

Researchers on this project want an audio EDL.  I almost never do EDLs but maybe  once a year do a video EDL  if there is a librarian or researcher needing numbers.

I reduced my sequence to just audio tracks.  9 layers.  But no matter what I do, I get "The file is not valid and can't be opened" error when I try to open the sequence.  I have it in its own bin as well.  Get this with MC open and closed.

Is there a trick to the audio EDL?

Re: [Avid-L2] Most stable Mac OS and MC version?

I'm running MC 2018.4 (with Symphony option) on OS 10.10.5 and it's a sweeeeeeet situation. I also have it on a 10.13.4 (High Sierra) Macbook Pro and it seems fine, but haven't done any heavy lifting on that one.

YMMV.

Re: [Avid-L2] Help for you: Is your Mac running hot (silly question, right?)

Benjamin,

My 2011 MBP sounds like yours - RAM & SSD upgrades a couple of years ago, love the 17 matte screen, etc.

Because I have a nice workstation, I don't edit much on it these days (and when I do usually I use Premiere), but I occasionally teach or demo editing techniques with it.

Probably the only drawback is that it has only one Thunderbolt port and no USB3 ports.  I occasionally use it do data wrangling on location, not enough to justify some kind of TB to USB3 dock or adaptor.

So thanks for the tip about iStat - I'll check it out..

Hey L2-ers!

First, I'm hoping that sharing the post below will help in a small way to begin to repay everyone in this group that's always helping me (directly or indirectly).

Second, I feel quite confident that I'm very, very, very late to the party on this issue, and on the capabilities of the app I mention at the link, so please forgo the chiding, thanks ;)

Re: [Avid-L2] Moving stills

I've had issues linking to stills regarding levels getting scaled.  I can export a jpeg from Avid set to legal level and then link to it and the levels will be way off like it's being scaled even though there is no scaling applied in source settings.  If I do a traditional import with correct settings it comes in perfect.  Very weird.  It's been a while since I ran into this but IIRC jpegs were problematic and others like tga or tiff worked properly.  There was definitely a quirk on Mac Avid when I was on 8.5.3.  I haven't retried on Avid 8.9.4.

Edit in basically any other NLE and be able to use the full resolution of your photo without any convoluted buggy plugins or workflows?

Other than that, you have Boris, Moving Picture and Avid Pan and Zoom.

You could experiment with just linking to the photos via Link (formerly AMA) and use Frame Flex.  That's always made me a bit nervous to do on a big project, but works in small doses.

Hi

Im a long time Stagetools user and really never go anywhere else.  But lately and on this current doc I'm on, with hundreds of stills, Moving Picture is becoming a pain.   Limited file size, not going back to last folder you used when loading picture, and having a limitation on file name characters is causing me to spend twice as long doing moves on pictures.

What are some of you using that works.  I am a longtime AE user and do use this but I can't be hopping in and out of AE for every pic.  Sometimes I just want to link to the original and not do moves.

Anything solid out there that is fast?
