RE: [Avid-L2] Batch Audio Conversion Software ?

Audition has a batch mode that can do what you need. Runs on Mac or Windows. Does an excellent job very quickly.

Any suggestions for well-regarded audio conversion software that can operate in batch mode?

Thanks.

Re: [Avid-L2] subtitles, subCap still sucks!

Just checked, not sure if we're running a different version, but increasing 'row spacing' in the Box options does the trick.

And I started writing a SOP for Hubcap when I discovered two other bugs:

Note, I don't like a box, but want an outline instead. No shadow. For a test, i've turned ON a big white box to display the outline very clear, and switched to P to have my client monitor full res while editing the SubCap effect.

- Sometimes the outline is cropped off on the left. (Start a line with a Capital T, font Arial). Seems the image taken to create the outline is too small. Adding a space before the text fixes this.

But it gets worse...

- Depending on the width of the line AND the 'outline weight'  in the Text properties, the outline is NOT equal around the chars. Change the outline weight value with the wheel, or change the text (just type) you can see the outline jump around in an illogical way.

That's a dealbreaker for me…
(And then Arial Narrow is always set to Italic… And font styles can't be mixed within a title, and it crashes a lot, and….)

SubCap is still there, and it still sucks (On a lot of fonts, it crops a bit of the bottom.)

I found I could fix that by changing the leading setting. FWIW.

Re: [Avid-L2] 1080P 23.98 to 1080i 60

Are you talking about 'normal' vs 'advanced' pulldown?

Advanced is not to be used to view! (And should be obsolete by now…)

QT Ref out of Avid set to RGB/Full Range levels to Adobe Media Encoder and set it to make a 29.97 fps .mov.  The pulldown will be 3:2 not the normal 2:3 but visually that doesn't matter.  Otherwise it's multiple video mixdowns once in the 23.976 and a second bringing that mixdown into a 59.94i.  Then from there depending on audio needs and Avid version you can export direct from Avid or use a QT Ref and AME or QT Pro 7 to Save As to make the final file

[Avid-L2] Re: Find and uninstall security updates in OS X 10.10.

The tweaks I am referring to have nothing to do with optimizing the performance of Media Composer.  They are entirely based on locking down the operating system's penchant for mining your private data and pushing apps onto your hard drive you have absolutely no interest in.

Regarding launching different operating systems, there are plenty of solutions for that.  I walked away from multi-boot environments many years ago, but here are a number of pages that describe the process:

Is there a good source for all the tweaks to Windows 10 that you did?

I personally did not get 'forced' into that OS transition, but the requirement to run Resolve Studio 12.5 pushed me to W10 anyway.  I have just finished upgrading 6 machines from W7 to W10 and I am liking the OS.  Lots of improvements.

However, there are over 50 tweaks that are absolutely necessary to prevent Microsoft from gaining access to private data, to prevent Microsoft from changing your desired settings, and to prevent Microsoft from pushing "promoted" applications to your computer and to your Start menu.

While it is certainly disappointing to see this promiscuous behavior in an operating system -- welcome to the new world where free software equates to YOU being the product.  Meticulous diligence in addressing these tweaks is the solution to running this modern operating system without the risks.

I do pity the vast majority of Windows 10 users that are undoubtedly using the OS out-of-the-box without locking down their world.
