I personally did not get 'forced' into that OS transition, but the requirement to run Resolve Studio 12.5 pushed me to W10 anyway. I have just finished upgrading 6 machines from W7 to W10 and I am liking the OS. Lots of improvements.
However, there are over 50 tweaks that are absolutely necessary to prevent Microsoft from gaining access to private data, to prevent Microsoft from changing your desired settings, and to prevent Microsoft from pushing "promoted" applications to your computer and to your Start menu.
While it is certainly disappointing to see this promiscuous behavior in an operating system -- welcome to the new world where free software equates to YOU being the product. Meticulous diligence in addressing these tweaks is the solution to running this modern operating system without the risks.
I do pity the vast majority of Windows 10 users that are undoubtedly using the OS out-of-the-box without locking down their world.
