Re: [Avid-L2] Varying Size of ProRes 4444 file through After Effects then Avid the Premier Pro?

Chroma sampling.  The first one is 444, the second one is 422.  Duration of the third one is about 1/4 the first 2.

Re: [Avid-L2] Help with EditShare AvidStyle error

I've already done the uninstall / reinstall.  The MacOS/EditShare versions are the same as when it was last set up.

But considering that when I go to enable AvidStyle on a workstation EditShare Connect literally says that it needs to change permissions on some folders and then prompts me for my admin password, but subsequently fails to enable right after that, I have to think that it's not changing permissions on the necessary folders.

I really do think I just need to know what folders need to have permissions changed and then it'll work.

Re: [Avid-L2] Help with EditShare AvidStyle error

Mimiq is not required for EditShare - they run their own version and it's quite stable and good.

My guess is that the client installer isn't invoking some handshake with the Mac security preferences that would allow this operation. I only used EditShare on Macs prior to the world of security "allow" prefs, so I would look there. Perhaps adding the EditShare client to Full Disk Access or something else would allow AvidStyle prefs to install correctly? It's a guess, but all signs seem to be pointing to that elusive security pref…

Re: [Avid-L2] Help with EditShare AvidStyle error

Ok, so, I think Dennis is onto something.  I pulled a second system (another Mac) and hooked it up as a client.

I started up EditShare Connect.  Went to the Settings tab.  Clicked on Enable AvidStyle and Avid AFP.

And then a popup window opened saying that EditShare Connect needed admin permissions, etc.  I clicked OK.  And then it prompted me to enter my admin credentials for that workstation, which I did.  Then it prompts me again for admin password.  And THEN it fails with the contact admin thing.  And after that it goes straight to the contact admin thing.

So what folders and files do I need to modify permissions on to make this thing happy?

And is there a file I need to delete to get it to prompt me again?

Thank you,
Jay

Help please! When I go to Enable AvidStyle and Avid AFP I get this error window popping up.  I don't know what this means or how to resolve it.  There is not an admin to contact.  System is not under support contract.

LONG STORY:
During the pandemic a company went under.  Someone I know ended up with some gear and stuck it all in a closet.  They now want to try and get this stuff up and running and asked if I would help.  I got EditShare Unmanaged working.  I'm now trying to get AvidStyle working to be able to do Unity style bin locking.  On the Manager I made spaces and I can get them to mount on the clients.  But when I go to Enable AvidStyle (per the manual) on the client I get this message that it can't access AvidStyle files.  I have not been able to find a resource that explains what that means or how to fix it.  The system is long long out of support.  Anyone here able to point me to a decent resource?

Thank you very much.

Re: [Avid-L2] Help with EditShare AvidStyle error

Thank you everyone for the replies.  I had a busy day and I'm just now getting to reading these.  To answer a few questions.

I did make AvidStyle spaces in the EditShare Manager on the main Linux EditShare server.

I actually can mount those AvidStyle spaces to the client.  And I can read and write to those spaces.

What I can't achieve is getting the client system (Mac) to enable AvidStyle and Avid AFP to achieve bin lock.

Bryan, I will go track down those files and will send them to you once I'm done with dinner.

Thank you everyone.  And I'm open for more suggestions still.

Jay

That's correct - spaces can be Managed, Unmanaged or AvidStyle - set when the space is created.

As far as I remember, the server volume has to be created as Avid Style in order for that to work. Unmanaged I think was typically for Premiere or other application workflow, so I do not believe it contains the Avid Style locking capabilities. I could be wrong - it's been a while since I used and managed EditShare servers. However, you may still be able to access stuff there, just without the bin locking.

Not sure it is that simple as the OP can access the Unmanaged media spaces ... we have a big Editshare at my university and there's more to it than that. I'm not a support engineer so I can't help further, sorry.

Without any knowledge of the system, I'd guess that this is a permissions issue.  Are the clients Mac or Windows?  Look for permissions . . . .
