I should have added that I took all the Assets into Avid first to sync and line things up as that's my home field. I then AAF'd into Resolve to make the IMF.

With IMF you can create supplemental files, so you make as a UK version with subtitles burnt in and then do supplemental packages for other languages and also for textless if you want. Or any combo because basically you are making alternate versions of just the changed elements.
So that's the clever IMF thing.. especially if you do Dolby Vision.. One master version that you can use to play as HDR or SDR and various int versions all in one file.
Although I'm not actually sure that for example Netflix are taking textless in this way at the moment.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Avoiding burnt in subtitles (IMF?)
Normally when delivering a doc (usually UK, sometimes AS11, with international variations) we burn in the English language subtitles and provide textless elements at end or seperate clean show.
Now we are delivering UHD and HD that is 4 masters to wrangle.
Seems like we should try to migrate to a sidecar file for the subtitles, so I'm interested to know how that is working for folks in the real world. And is this something made easier with IMF?
How do you review the resultant file? eg is there a play this version of IMF with subtitles?
Also how to control subtitle sizing so that the sizing is correct (4:3 safe, over 1 or 2 lines, reposition to avoid areas of screen etc)?
Thanks fo any pointers
Thanks for any info
