Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Inverted Color on Macbook MC 3.5

It actually stands for turning off OpenGL.
Helps restoring compatibility with non compliant GFX accelerators(usually ATI/Intel - meaning non-NVidia).

[Avid-L2] Re: Inverted Color on Macbook MC 3.5

I've tried the G+O trick and pulling the Acpl files. Still inverted
color.

Seems like a clean install of the OS would be the next thing to try to
remove a bunch of variables.

If the problem is a software version issue you try and OMF exprt/import

Yes - try the G+O key combo immediately after launch (like a fraction of a
second). This got it running for me on a Mac Mini with the built-in graphics
card.

Hi,

I'm occasionally been running MC 3.x and 4.x on a black MacBook 2.16.

I always stick to the recommended QT/OS versions religiously:
http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=267087

I do recall that - in order to make it work the very first time - I had to
manually dive into the ACPL Effects and remove AcplEffects.avx (this is in a
package you will need to open):
CTRL-click on the MediaComposer application, and choose "Show Package
Contents". Then Contents/SharedSupport/AVX2_Plugins, select all files with
acpl in their name, then trash those (or drag them to the desktop if you
don't dare ditching them immediately).

Also, someone recommended booting with a certain key combo (press and hold
G+O keys during MC launch. After that, it has kept working just fine. No
inverted colors, running 3:1p MXF media with color grading and 16x9 mask
just fine.

[Avid-L2] Re: Latent Activation Issue - Deactivated Dongle (MCsoft 3.5.9/MOJO/PC)

Thank you, Oliver, Bogdan & Marianna.

First off, let me say how grateful I am to you, and the rest of the forum, to have a place to get quick, friendly accurate feedback. I look forward to paying it forward as you have.

I took Marianna's advice and got in-touch with tech support. I was helped out by a gentleman named Alex. We confirmed that, as you suggested Marianna, somehow the software was not recognizing the dongle, now officially referred to as the "Hardware Key," and had simply gone through the second registration option, using my serial number and invalidating the hardware key.

Since I'd saved my dongle updater file, Alex helped me trash the files related to software registration, and we re-blasted the hardware key.

All seems well now, and I appreciate the quick feedback.

Thank you again.

Somehow the trial zapped your dongle and you would like them to send you a new updater.avd file so you can reset the dongle back. Be prepared to provie your system ID and dongle ID.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: odd interface mark

I first noticed it in beta testing years ago. It would sometimes come
and go on the timeline mappable buttons.

But this week I had customers report it showing up (in trim mode) with
fresh settings on new 4.0 mac sytems.

[Avid-L2] Inverted Color on Macbook MC 3.5

I am looking to create a very temporary road machine. Naturally I would
prefer a Macbook Pro properly configured but that isn't in the cards.
As an experiment (and because I have access to the computer) I've
loaded up MC 3.5 onto a Macbook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 Gig of
RAM running QT 7.6 OS 10.5.6

So far, for what I want to do - cuts only, selecting of material - it
is actually working fine running DV resolution media off a Firewire 400
drive. The only problem is the color is inverted (at least that's what
I think is happening) when I play a clip. In pause, it is fine.

I realize the Macbook graphics card compared to the Macbook Pro part of
why the Macbooks are not qualified and may explain the entire symptom.

Aside from "don't do that," is there anything obvious here? Looking
over the archives I saw some mention that running QT 7.5 was better
than 7.6 (though I think that means a re-install of the system software
to 10.5.5)

I can actually live with the color inversion but thought I would check
if there is some setting/software I can fiddle with.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Dan

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Unable to Duplicate Sequence!

Thanks Doods, for the decent ideas,

Due to the fact that they can OPEN it in 2.7, but not DUPE, I had been
thinking permissions lice or some other file corruption. These
timelines were handoffs, from one edit team to another, using the same
PC Adrenaline gear. The effects content in not 100% known yet. I'll
look into it.

And I did not know there was a specific right cick downgrade command but
I have seen how 2.7 sequences are promoted (4.x makes copies and saves
the "old" version too).

Think about getting more fiber, John.

In all honesty the guy who made the comment is a really hard worker and very conscientious. It's a sad state of the industry now that a lot of people don't know what they don't know but they can point and click so they get the job.

I mean I can't try it on my symphony right now. They act like these darn air dates are more important than my Avid research. Don't they realize I'm a close personal friend of a friend of Bill Nye? And the Wifi blows big time here so I hot wired a router for dependable performance.

[Avid-L2] Re: Unable to Duplicate Sequence!

I for one have never had repairsequences do anything useful, like fixing a sequence. I think you talking about demoting effects to be compatible with pre keyframeable color correction. As far as I know repair sequences has nothing to do with that function, it was around long before keyframeable color correction. So far I've found no need to keyframe color correction and prefer the old add edit and dissolve solution especially since things like curves adjustments are not keyframeable. Someone should confirm or deny the keyframeability of Curves my memory may be fuzzy there and I'm in the middle of a long output so I can't check for a while.

compatibility function to allow better backwards travelage.

Hang on - let me login and launch...

Ahhh... there it is (and in MCSoft 3.1.3 so it's surely in later
releases):

1. Select (hilight) sequence in Bin.
2. Right-Click on Sequence Icon and select "Create Compatible Copy"
from teh popup menu.
3. See what the hell happens (I don't have any seqs that require
dumbing down, something the app will tell you if that's indeed the
case).

[Avid-L2] OT: Assistant Quote of the Day

While standing in the machine room two of our AEs were talking.  One was dubbing to betasp some tapes.  As he rewound the tape and spot checked the tape the other AE said, "You mean you check the tapes?  I just let the machines keep running and auto rewind."  I really need a brick to bash myself in the head.  What are they putting in the cereal these days?  Surely there's not enough sugar in my opinion.  Sure explains why I had so many bad dubs, but that was from a big out of house company?  Guess they had the same training at their facility.

[Avid-L2] Re: Unable to Duplicate Sequence!

Are you saying they are passing a sequence from 4.0.5 to 2.7??

You could try reverting the sequence (right click in bin). It might be complaining about keyframeable color fx.

Going that far back sound like risky business to me.

Re: [Avid-L2] NLE of the future (was Avid buys Blue Order)

Yer on the right track there, Pete, Mostly.

(Rubbing my crystal ball) An blurry image is appearing. It is clearing
now, I see,...

Avid will thrive and hold on for awhile, especially after it buys the
aging FCP from Apple (acquiring part of AJA in the deal) but will sink
rapidly due to the weight of its collective investments and the
hundred-fold increase in whiny customers- all expecting cheaper 4K
hardware and free SW upgrades. The company will be forced to sell the
failing audio and video divisions (to Autodesk) and focus on their core
ISIS "IP" products.

(The good news is that Avid will briefly become a billion dollar company).

Meanwhile, Apple, flush with cash and free from the yolk of its FCP
legacy, will shrewdly launch cloud-based editing on its highly
anticipated iPad Video tablet (which will finally include USB and a
camera). After months of well timed leaks, Jobs will host the live SF
event before a frenzied flock of faithful followers. With the help of
an ex-Avid product designer, they debut "iEdit 1.0". It's an instant hit.

All you need is the new iPad Video or Iphone 4GS and a .mac account. In
the first week, 10 million users download iEdit from the App Store and
begin producing content for their own personal "iTube" broadcast
channels and vlogs.

In an exclusive deal, ATT introduces the "iTube Plan", an upgraded
monthly subscription with rollover video minutes. Customers love it.
Vidiots no longer have to buy and store tapes, or worry about format
conversion, or losing their precious video data. It's always online -
in the iTube cloud. Apple receives a 30% royalty for anything that is
created, played and sold with their technology.

A few quarters later, (after settling infringement lawsuits over the new
product names), Apple charges a premium as customers rush to upgrade to
the latest "iPad 3D" (which will finally get USB 3.0 and Flash).

(The image is fading,.. )

So there it is - we WILL see cloud-based virtual touchscreen editing for
the masses! Soon.

have you tried an edl cleaner program. I forget what we use to use back in the linear (olden) days. A quick check of the googles got EDL Mirror from Digital Heaven.

I'm asking this of both FCP and Avid groups, as I need to export an EDL from FCP (6.0.6), and use it to create a sequence in Avid (Symphony Nitris 1.8) via Avid EDL Manager. When I load the created sequence into the Avid timeline, I get a fatal error message:

Assertion failed: errCode ==HWcommon:: kHWCerr_No Error
File \coreew\ame\ msm\AConsumer. c, Line 473

The FCP generated EDL will load and create a sequence perfectly in Smoke. I cannot find anything wrong with the EDL?

Any ideas would be helpful.

[Avid-L2] Re: Automatic Duck help?

Thanks Wes,

I'm probably going to have to pick this up on Monday, I have to scoot out of here soon. I was waiting to hear back from the FCP guy today, to see if he could just re-send the stuff in a zip folder instead. I also wanted to find out what compression he used etc because the project is supposed to be HD (at least all the ones we've done to date are and we're integrating his segment) and this sequence is clearly SD.

I'll also have to check with the Producer to see if they're cool with me uploading the footage to you for debugging. I don't anticipate that there will be a problem, but you never know. Worst-case, I'll have him FedEx the Source footage and I'll Batch Capture from the AAF Comp.

Thanks for all your help!

Re: [Avid-L2] TV Spot distribution question

Few stations are airing any local HD content - even "now in HD" newscasts
have only studio content in HD - most don't yet have the newsroom
infrastructure to use/upconvert to HD. Spots are even further behind and are
generally 4:3 SD, from my experience. I have seen one exception here in
Birmingham, where a station airs SD spots but has :03 news IDs in HD. It
looked funny during the Super Bowl.

Run away from anamorphic. I've seen too many local/regional spots where
clever editors thought this would work.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Media Comp 5 ...

True. NAB should be good.

Frankly, Version 4 doesn't even have any rust on it yet. So Avid looks
to be making great progress lately.

I hope the corporate HQ move doesn't muff things up.
