Re: [Avid-L2] Can't Consolidate Clips with embedded LUTs?

One thing I've posted about before is even when I uncheck in color management to auto add LUTs on linking and also not to use CDL info sometimes they info still gets added on linking.  Embedded Luts seems to ignore this setting and they always seem to come in.  I'm not sure where the metadata is carried perhaps it is only written to the first frame so consolidating might miss it if the first frame is not included.  I'm just guessing but it seems silly.  Once I replace it with the stock LUT all is well.

So besides not doing much consolidating in 4K perhsps because I always use stock not embedded LUTs this is the first time I've run into this.

I ended up deleting the existing source setting color adapter and replacing it with the Avid standard LogC to Rec 709 that would appear when I hit the auto button.  Then the clips would consolidate.  I wasn't baking int the LUTs so I don't get why the embedded info was problematic for consolidation.  MC 2018.12.3 MacPro OS 10.12.6.  Never seen this before but I haven't done much consolidating in 4K.

Re: [Avid-L2] MC Auto-Adding Bad Color Transforms

I haven't dabbled in 2019 yet.  I had posted about floating bins before and Marianna pointed me to a document that IIRC said it is possible to float bins.  Is there a master setting that will make a bin float automatically so every time I make a new bin it floats, like Avid has always worked before?  I know I need to RTFM but I'm curious on this point.

I am in no hurry to jump to 2019 at the moment but I'm interested in how I can make it work in Dinosaur mode so I don't have to rewrap my brain too much.  These days my brain seems low on bandwidth or maybe my brain just decided to store memory in a different codec than I'm use to.  It's like my ama brain link is not working and I don't have the correct plugin.  ;-)_

It's not sorted but my advice would be:
1) Make entirely new settings and trash the Site Setting file from any previous version before you start.
2) Float ALL the windows (panels). This way you can set up your workspaces. Unfortunately the Bin Container is not part of a workspace. You need to create bin setups - a royal pain. What they need is a modern equivalent of the good old Superbin which can be locked into a relationship with everything else in a workspace.

There are a LOT of bugs in 2019. For example, try dragging a clip from a bin in Frame View from a left monitor across to the Source window in a right monitor, and watch what happens in the bin…

The result is predictably atrocious and I have to open Source Settings and delete them.

Is this just a bug or am I missing something I need to change?

The project is set to YCbCr 709 HD1080p project. The sources are Quicktime ProRes NTSC masters.

I'm also struggling with bins not remembering where they are, settings for basic UI, and strange clip arrangements in bins. A LOT of this stuff is broken. I'm certainly hoping this stuff will be fixed soon. Really hoping.

[Avid-L2] free stuff

I have a few thousand feet of SDI cable - Gepco VPM2000 - various lengths and bundles, all with BNC connectors, mostly 50-100' lengths, some shorter.

I will give you whatever you need, as long as supply lasts, and you pay for shipping - and I enjoy a very low shipping rate.

specs:

http://www.gepco.com/products/proav_cable/video/coax_hd_sdi_F.htm?v=2

http://www.gepco.com/technical/sdi_distance_chart.htm?v=2

prefer it goes to a good home than into the landfill or recycle.

Yes, I'm seeing that. My initial install would not load. I had to find and remove an audio plugin.
