[Avid-L2] Custom H_264 .mov export taking 4096_2160 to 1920_1080 LB from Avid?

I rarely use Avid to directly export other than a same as source or a QT Ref that I can still take into my older copy of Adobe Media Encoder at work to make specific files to delivery specs.

I work on DCI 4096_2160 DNxHRHQX projects and today I was trying to do a custom export to H_264 and no matter how I set up the Avid height and width and then the QT Settings in format options I can't get it to export to an HD 1920_1080 with a letterbox to maintain aspect ratio.  If I export to H_264 4096_2160 .mov and then in QT Pro 7 use that and choose "Export" I can export and H_264 at 1920_1080 with a letterbox when I click the "Perserve Aspect Ratio by" and choose letter box.  So that works when it's done in QT Pro 7 but not when Avid is exporting through QT in Avid's Custom Export.

Is there just no way through custom export to get it to letterbox the 1.90 aspect ratio into a 16:9 frame in one Avid export step.  I know this has always been an issue for me hence my adopting my QT Ref workflow and Adobe Media Encoder approach.  Am I missing something obvious?  It's like when Avid is using the QT Engine in a Custom export it doesn't access the functionality of the export features but only the save as function.  I'm sure that's not exactly what's happening but that's what it feels like.  Just like my exports I'm getting squeezed a bit.  ;-)

Re: [Avid-L2] Apple EFI AMD RX480?

The base 7,1 will use the Pro 580X, not the RX 480.

If you've got two TitanX's then I assume you're using Cuda. I don't see what you'd gain by switching the 680 out for the RX 480.

Anyone else having this issue?

I get messages from Avid warning me that I need to update my expiring credit card. Fine No problemo. But when you go to your Master Account on the website, and click on Billing Info 'Update'… nothing happens.

Yes, you get a pop-up that says 'Update Payment Method' but nothing else happens (image attached).

I've tried this on Safari, Chrome, and Firefox, just to be sure it wasn't some weird browser-specific issue, and the results are the same.

Little help?

Thanks,

[Avid-L2] QT Ref wont export Matte Key?

I posted about this a while back where I got a sequence that a matte key graphic had been imported at DNxHR Uncompressed, or whatever the actual nomenclature is, and it wouldn't let me export a QTRef.  I re imported the graphic with alpha as DNxHR and then I could export a QT Reference.  Today I'm on a different project where I imported Keyable graphics that were ProRes 4444.  Upon importing I converted them to DNxHR HQX but when I try to do a QT Ref export with the track with the matte key graphic I get the same message.
Here is the message, "Some Long GOP or DNxUncompressed media can not be exported using QuickTime Reference.  You need to export the media as a custom QuickTime Movie."

In this case this was a keyable element I imported myself.  I tried to look at the fill and alpha tracks to see if perhaps the Alpha track was uncompressed but it show DNxHR.  If I make a video mixdown of the graphic area and cut it above the graphics I stll get the error if the track is highlighted/selected during export, my QT export has use selected tracks checked, but if I deselect the track, in this case V7, and select V8 where the mixdown I made is the export works.  I get why that works but why is the matte key element that was imported to DNxHRHQX being seen as long gop or more likely uncompressed.

MC 2018.12.7 MacPro mid 2010 upgraded to 12core 3.33GHz, Mac OS 10.12.6, GTX-680, NitrisDX, 32GB Ram.  Project is 23.976 Rec 709 DCI 4096_2160.

KeySpan 2-port UBS-DIN8-9-pin RS-422 Driver Install incorrectly lists support for 2-port > Re: [Avid-L2] Deck Control, Old School system

An addendum to my last reply and related to Jay Mahavier finding drivers from KeySpan:
There is a mistake in their install/web page that claims that the older RS-422 adapters listed will work with newer drivers (Mac OS Sierra and above).  I could not get these to work on Mac 5,5; Any Avid 2018.xx and Nitris DX.  After going round and round with tech support, they confirmed that the adapters listed on the install page of the driver is incorrect, and there is no support for the Two Port USB-to-DIN-to-9-pin (screen shot below).  Of course, this wastes a lot of time and causes confusion.

Trying to configure deck control after a re-install. I have a rosetta stone and a Keyspan 28X b model.

I remember these were a real PITA to setup. Tripplite (who bought keyspan) has killed all the old drivers and documentation from their website.

Avid website not helpful about the voodoo that had to be done to get theses to work.

Can anyone remind me of the right "voodoo" to get them to work, and possibly a copy of the right drivers?

Current notes in the AVID forums say they are no longer supported, but I had this working before the OS re-install.

Can the old school hive mind help me on this one? A copy of the right driver is key (pun intended).
