[Avid-L2] QuickTime is dead... long live QuickTime!

I've just installed MC 2023.12 on a new Dell workstation and forgot to install QT before installing MC.  But, is it really needed in MC 2023.12?  Let's do some tests to find out...

Yep!  You still need to install QT if you intend to do QT reference exports in the current version of MC.

The Avid Knowledge Base article "QuickTime Support and Security on Windows" detailing the modified for security installation process, found at https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites.com/pkb/articles/how_to/QuickTime-Support-and-Security-on-Windows hasn't been updated since 10/10/2017, but it's still posted and apparently for a good reason.

Cheers,
Karl Knowles

Re: [Avid-L2] Media Composer 2021 media replacement issues

In your bin, display the Tape column.  What info is in the Tape column on the original clips.  What info is in the Tape column when you drag in the MDB file of the re-transfer media?

Thanks, JB. I don't think it is a folder naming issue. If I get a folder from transfer  named with episode and date and their MDB inside, it's fine.
If I get retransfer of the same media, with their  new MDB, it won't automatically relink to bins in the project. Even If I name the folder the machine name and make a new MDB, it doesn't link. As a test, dragging the MDB into a bin produces clips with media offline. I think it is an Avid version compatibility issue.

Wait, whatever happened to ISIS?

Oh, right, we don't say that any more...

Just a random thought from a retired guy. How are your media folders named? Are you using folders created by your current Nexus system or folders created by a system with non Nexus storage, or possibly a system using asset management like Interplay?  JB

Thanks, Tommy. We upgraded the Nexus client but no change.
It seems that when MC 2021 rebuilds the MDB, it doesn't do it correctly. Perhaps it's how the media is created.
But if I get the mediafiles and MDB from the lab there is no issue. If I put media in the media directory and let the 2021 MC rebuild the MDB, I have to do all sorts of tricks to get the media to relink to an existing bin.
